Happy New Year! The new year is a time of growth and transition for many, including the Harvard Club of Washington DC. We have begun the new year by switching to a new website that features new, more user-friendly online membership and event registration services. Although the transition between websites will likely be less smooth than we would like, we assure you that any minor inconvenience you may experience will pale in comparison to the increased functionality of the new website. In addition, we hope that the new website will assist the Club in moving away from its current, paper-based operations to a new, more user-friendly online system. So when you renew your membership or register for our exciting Club events, such as our visit to the Latvian Embassy on January 19 or any of our many social and cultural events, please consider doing so online. In addition, we encourage you to forego the written version of the newsletter in favor of an email-only communication system, which will save the Club a significant amount of money in postage and printing fees. The Harvard Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, which not only means that your membership dues and scholarship donations are fully deductible as authorized by law, but it also means that the less we spend on overhead, the more we have to spend on our programming and charitable endeavors. That being said, we will continue to provide paper versions of the newsletters and other Club mailings for as long as a significant number of members request them. As always, I look forward to seeing you at a Club event soon! Very truly yours, René Rocque Lee 97, JD 00 President, Harvard Club of Washington
