This donation allowed 20 SIS members to attend training consisting of Emergency Medical Care and Treatment, Advance Firearms Training, Use of Force Updates, Officer/Citizen Rescues and tactics that are specific to SIS, Robbery Homicide Division. The donation covered the daily meals per diem and the cost of the hotel. Administrative Services Bureau has reviewed the donation and determined that it has been submitted in accordance with Section 5.467 et seq. of the Los Angeles Administrative Code, which provides for the receipt and acceptance of donations to the Police Department. This donation is for the benefit of Robbery-Homicide Division, Special Investigation Section (RHD-SIS). Due to budget restraints the Department was unable to fund this mandated training but this donation allowed the section to complete this training. The grant was requested in the amount of $17,080.00, but due to scheduling conflicts the reimbursement amount of the training was $11,858.45. This grant covered all of the expenses of this training except for the employee's salaries. This training allowed the unit to receive training in the following areas; Emergency Medical Care and Treatment, Advanced Firearms Training, Use of Force Updates, Officer / Citizen Rescues and tactics that are specific to SIS. The section works as a whole when assigned to a ease. To accomplish the Unit's objectives the section needs to work as a well oil machined when it comes to tactical operations. The training the Unit is able to conduct during this week long training evolution is invaluable to maintain the Unit's cohesiveness during tactical operations. What Objectives will be accomplished if the funding is granted? The Special Investigation Section members will be able to update and maintain their skills in the following areas: firearms; pistols, rifles and shotguns, SIS tactics will be honed, the vehicle containment techniques, downed officer rescue tactics, immediate action response drills, victim recovery interventions, legal and Department updates. The facilities the Unit is granted access that will allow the Unit to training in all of these applications at one location. The training will allow the Unit to continue developing unit tactics as it relates to victim recovery interventions in kidnappings where it could mean the difference if a victim is rescued alive or killed by their kidnapper. It also will allow the section to continue developing Unit tactics that would be deployed if a Mumbai like event ever occurred in the City of Los Angeles. How can the foundation evaluate success if the funding is granted? All the individuals assigned to SJS will artend this training. This training will allow the section to meet one of its training goals along with the ability to enhance and maintain skills needed on a daily bases to serve thc Citizens of Los Angeles. We can only hope that some of the tactics this training will provide would never need to be used, but if the need were to arise this training would allow this Unit to rise to the occasion Please list or attach an itemized list of expenses or a quote from the equipment manufacture on vendor's letterhead. The Department will provide all the ammunition required and will cover the cost of all the employees' salaries and the transportation costs.
