Rationale Entrepreneurship is the professional application of knowledge, skills and competencies and/or of monetizing a new idea, by an individual or a set of people by launching an enterprise de novo or diversifying from an existing one (distinct from seeking self-employment as in a profession or trade), thus to pursue growth while generating wealth, employment and social good. If it is to make a success of the coveted appeal 'Make in India' for growth and employment generation, we need to stimulate the entrepreneurial mindsets of young people, encourage innovative business start-ups, and foster a culture that is friendlier to entrepreneurship. The important role of education in promoting more entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviours is now widely recognised. The myth that entrepreneurs are born, no more holds good, rather it is well recognised now that the entrepreneurs can be created and nurtured through appropriate interventions in the form of entrepreneurship development programmes. Sinhgad Institutes, the leaders in developing human resources, are determined to churn out technoentrepreneurs on a continuous basis with some modulation and change in focus, which would accelerate the process of economic development and growth. Sinhgad Institutes have undertaken the role to blend technical inputs with entrepreneurial and managerial skills in their academic programmes and train S&T person for entrepreneurial challenges. Entrepreneurship refers to an individual s ability to turn ideas into action and is therefore a key competence for all, helping young people to be more creative and self-confident in whatever they undertake. At higher education level, the primary purpose of entrepreneurship education should be to develop entrepreneurial capacities and mindsets. ENTREPRENEURSHIP CELL SINHGAD COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, PUNE 2016 9

About Sinhgad Technical Education Society While the need for professionals was gathering momentum in the early 90's in India, Prof. M. N. Navale with visionary objective established Sinhgad Technical Education Society (STES) to provide quality education in the field of Engineering & Technology, Health Science, Management, Architecture, Pharmacy, Law, Arts, Science, Commerce and School Education. There are 117 institutes under the aegis of STES offering full-fledged primary, secondary and higher education and Ph.D. programs. Sinhgad Institutes are spread over 12 fully equipped sprawling, aesthetically landscaped campuses. All the institutes under STES are recognized by the concerned statutory authorities and meticulously fulfil the norms and standards laid down by them.
