Drama Company http://4h.uwex.edu/teams/dramateam.cfm Approximate cost is $500. The Drama Company is an exciting opportunity for high school youth to serve as theatre ambassadors. At WI 4-H & Youth Conference, the Drama Company youth will share their skills through a performance and teaching seminars. The application deadline is January 15. Since 1987 the Wisconsin 4-H Showcase Singers have been dazzling audiences at the Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference, the Wisconsin State Fair and more! The group is comprised of 4-H members, high school age and older who perform show choir material. The application deadline is January 15 and the team is open to youth who are presently in high school. Scholarships are available from the 4-H Scholarship Foundation. Wisconsin 4-H Youth Leader Council (YLC) - http://4h.uwex.edu/youth/leadership.cfm The purpose of the Wisconsin 4-H Youth Leader Council (YLC) is to strengthen 4-H Youth Development programs by addressing youth issues, promoting 4-H, providing leadership at the Wisconsin 4-H and Youth Conference and communicating needs between local and state needs. Members of the Council represent geographical districts throughout Wisconsin. New members need to complete an application and are selected by present YLC members and youth delegates to Fall Forum. Council members must have completed 8th grade and not exceeded the completion of 11th grade of the calendar year during which their term begins. Council members serve a 2-year term. YLC members in grades 8-11 meet three times a year: 4-H and Youth Conference, Fall Forum, and a Spring Retreat. Besides their role with the 4-H and Youth Conference and connection for input into youth issues, YLC members are active with the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation, Wisconsin State Fair Youth Exhibits Committee, and other statewide committees and events. The State Art Team is for members in grades 9-12 who will create artwork around a theme for WI 4-H & Youth Conference. They design and organize the WI 4-H & Youth Conference art exhibit, reception, and provide guided exhibit tours. They teach seminars and train to be peer leaders for county and regional events including the Wisconsin State Fair. The application deadline is in January. The State 4-H Photo Team of 10-12 youth photographers take digital photos of WI 4-H & Youth Conference events and groups. They also prepare a WI 4-H & Youth Conference 13 Power Point presentation. Grant County 4-H Camp Summertime fun Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center See a video of camp at grantcounty4h.blogspot.com To apply for 4-H camp, members need to get an application form from their club leader. Some clubs may contribute to the cost of camp. Grade 3-4 Junior Campers Camp at Upham Woods includes four days of fun. It is filled with energizing, safe and educational activities designed to allow kids to explore and experience the natural world. Grade 5-6 Campers Camp at Upham Woods includes four days of fun, energizing, safe and educational activities designed to allow kids to explore and experience the natural world. Campers can meet new friends while participating in creative and fun activities. Grade 7-8 Outpost Camper A more rustic camping experience where campers stay in tents and learn survival skills. Citizenship Washington Focus http://4h.uwex.edu/events/congress/index.cfm (Need to be selected through the 4-H Award Application Form Process, see page 8) Citizenship Washington Focus is held by the National 4-H Foundation at the National 4-H Center in Washington D.C. It is for youth in grades 10-12 to supplement citizenship training provided by Extension. Participants may select from four possible dates in June and July. Listening, learning, sharing, receiving, caring and touring are all part of the 6 day learning experience. Visits to Capitol Hill, government departments, historic sites and memorials to Great Americans enhance the citizenship learning experience. Citizenship-Washington Focus costs are approximately $1,050. The Grant County Junior Leaders Association and the Leaders Association will sponsor a portion of the cost. Grade 9-12 Youth Counselor Youth Counselors work directly with campers to counsel, guide and mentor them. A counselor s job is to ensure that all campers have a positive camp experience. They assist campers in learning, making new friends and working together as a team. All youth counselors must be a current Grant County 4-H member. The application deadline is in February. Adult Counselors Adult Counselors need to be 18 years of age or older. They must be either certified as a 4-H leader or a 4-H member. They work closely with Youth Counselors to guide their leadership. The application deadline is in February. Adult Advisors Adult Advisors must be at least 21 years of age and certified as a 4-H leader. They help to ensure a strong camp experience by providing guidance and oversight to camp. The application deadline is in February. 6 National 4-H Congress http://4hconf.4-h.org/ (Need to be selected through the 4-H Award Application Form Process, see page 8) Where: Atlanta, Georgia When: November/December What: Delegates participate in self-development seminars, tours, and a service project, while exchanging ideas with youth from across the country. The qualifications are that members must be in 10th-12th grade at time of selection. There is a maximum age of 18 as of January 1 of current year. The total cost of National 4-H Congress is approximately $1,000. The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and Grant County Leaders Association sponsors a portion of the cost. The remaining amount is the responsibility of 11 the delegate and his/her family.

Trips for Grades 10-12 National 4-H Conference http://4hconf.4-h.org/ (Need to be selected through the 4-H Award Application Form Process, see page 8) Where: Washington D.C. When: March - April What: Six youth are selected to attend this working conference held at the National 4-H Center. Each participant selects an issue (i.e., education, promotion, environment, violence) and works with other youth from across the country to develop plans that help direct future 4-H programming. Delegates spend the majority of time contributing to stimulating, task-oriented groups. One day is spent on Capitol Hill meeting with legislators and touring. Qualifications: Applicants must be in 10-12 grade during the program. Maximum age is 18 as of January 1 of the current year. The total cost of the National 4-H Conference trip is approximately $1,100. The Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and Grant County Leaders Association sponsors a portion of the cost. The remaining amount is the responsibility of the delegates and his/her family. Out of State Exchange Open to 4-H members in grades 7-12. These members will spend approximately a week with 4-H members from another state. The following year, Grant County members will host the same member for about a week in June or July. This is a great chance to see a new part of the U.S. and make life-long friends. Past states involved in the program include Montana, Delaware and Massachusetts. U.S. Space Camphttp://4h.uwex.edu/events/spacecamp/index.cfm Where: Huntsville, Alabama When: April CO-OP Y.E.S (Youth Educational Summit) http://4huwex.edu/events/coopyes.cfm Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives Conference at Wisconsin Rapids, WI (usually held in spring). Participants will learn the purpose, operation and scope of cooperative business and economy in a fun and educational environment. Participants also explore career possibilities and meet youth leaders from across Wisconsin and Minnesota. The qualifications are that participants must be in 10th-12th grade and be current 4-H members who have not previously attended this conference. Costs are approximately $175. Local sponsors are typically secured by the participants and Wisconsin Federation of Cooperatives Office. 10 What: Delegates participate in hands-on mock space missions and other activities in this NASA program while exchanging ideas with youth from across the country. Qualifications: Be in 6th-8th grade at the time of the trip. Maximum age is 15 at the time of the trip. Costs: The total cost of U.S. Space Camp is approximately $475-$500. Participating members are encouraged to request sponsorship from the Grant County 4-H Leaders Association. 7

4-H Award Application Trips Members can apply for the following trips by filling out a 4-H Award application. With this application 4-H'ers become eligible to be considered for Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington, D.C., the 4-H Key Award, the Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference in Madison, CO-OP Y.E.S. and other state and national travel opportunities. Application forms are available in September and due October 1st. Applicants will be interviewed by the 4-H Leaders Executive Board for the final selection in November. If selected, members are required to sign a contract agreeing to attend and pay half of the trip expense by January 1 for each trip they have been selected for. Application materials are available in September at the Extension Office or on the web by following the link to Award Applications at http://grant.uwex.edu Trips for Grades 7 & Over Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference 4h.uwex.edu/events/youthconf/index.cfm (Need to be selected through the 4-H Award Application Form Process, see page 8) Where: UW Madison Campus When: June What: The Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference is an excellent opportunity for 4-Hers in grades 7-10. Youth have a chance to learn from and exchange ideas with 4-H ers from around the state and experience a supervised college setting. A special Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference application is available at the Extension Office. Cost will be about $210. Grant County Junior Leaders and Leaders Association both pay $35 per person, for 4-H members active in Junior Leaders. Each delegate can expect a cost of about $140. Key Award (Need to be selected through the 4-H Award Application Form Process, see page 8) The Key Award is given to outstanding 4-H members each year in grades 9-12. The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Rural Insurance Companies, Growmark Inc., and Midwest Livestock Producers sponsor this important leadership award. The purpose of the Key Award is to provide special recognition to 4-H members who have shown consistent growth through their 4-H involvement, have developed positive leadership ability, and have been helpful members in their club and community. Each recipient will receive a pin, key award certificate mounted in a frame, and disc for their 4-H award plaque. 8 9
