601 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW South Building, Suite 600 Washington, DC 20004 202.638.3950 www.dcuc.org Anthony R. Hernandez President/CEO, Defense Credit Union Council The Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference is our industry s premier educational conference! For 54 years, this event has been tailored specifically for defense credit union senior level executives, CEOs, and influential Board members and 2018 promises to surpass your expectations! This year, we have re-designed the Annual Conference to be more effective as an important part of your business strategies, and we are proud of the unique value our conference continues to offer to you. The decision-makers in attendance, educational insights, and business opportunities are ultimately what make this annual conference so valuable. There are many pressing issues facing Defense Credit Unions today. Key among them are regulatory relief legislation, emerging demographic and technological trends, and understanding and leveraging our value in defense communities. These and other issues affecting our industry will be addressed both on and off the stage during our three-day conference. Be a part of the dialogue and networking interaction with both colleagues and corporate partners to find innovative solutions for all the challenges we face. Invest in your future by attending the DCUC Conference again, or perhaps for the first time, this year. Please take a moment to look through this Preliminary Program to see some of the great things we have planned. To register for the conference and reserve your room at either the Williamsburg Inn or Lodge, go to the DCUC website, today www.dcuc.org. I look forward to seeing you in August. Anthony R. NEW THE FIRST EVER DCUC CRASH EVENT We are proud to announce that there will be a Crash Event with the Cooperative Trust at the upcoming DCUC Annual Conference in Williamsburg, VA. So what is a Crash Event? A Crash event is tailored specifically for the young professionals at your credit union, and is planned as part of an existing credit union conference. Do you have a young professional staffer (age 35 and under or 35 at heart) that shows strong potential and leadership qualities? If so, we would like to invite them to apply for this Crash Event with the Cooperative Trust. A maximum of 12 individuals will be selected by our Crash Committee (one per credit union) to attend the upcoming DCUC Conference in Williamsburg, VA. Crashers will participate in many of the regular conference sessions and events, but will also have a special track with workshops designed specifically for them. This will be a nonstop event for your young professional. Their action-packed schedule and interaction with industry mentors will help them develop as a future credit union executive! Sponsored by BRIEF HISTORY The first ever Crash event was launched in 2010 by what is now the Cooperative Trust, a credit union young professional program and community by Filene Research Institute. The goal was to introduce younger credit union professionals, who show strong leadership potential, with some of our important industry events. Most credit union organizations have focused on attracting experienced decision makers to attend their conferences. With the high cost of travel and registrations, many credit unions had been unable to offer this opportunity to their younger staff. So it was decided to provide an event that these young professionals could attend. The true purpose was to help our credit union industry realize that we must plan for the future by including younger generations. Armed with this information, the Cooperative Trust organized the first ever Crash event called Crash the GAC at CUNA s 2010 Governmental Affairs Conference. Since then, the Cooperative Trust s Crash program hosts more than 100 Crashers every year at dozens of Crash opportunities, and the award-winning Cooperative Trust community has grown to more than 1,700 young professionals in the credit union industry. Registration is COMPLIMENTARY! See our website for an easy application for the DCUC 2018 CRASH! 3

2018 Showcase with a Purpose This year, in keeping with our goal to support our troops and veterans in their time of need, the 2018 recipient of our fundraising will be Hope For The Warriors. In 2012, DCUC supported the great work that Hope for the Warriors does to assist combat wounded service members, their families and the families of the fallen, and we have decided to support their good work once again. They are an organization founded in 2006 by and for those in the military community in Camp Lejeune, NC, as they witnessed firsthand the effects war imparts on service members and their families. They have positively impacted the lives of over 13,000 people in an effort to return them to service of some nature. Their original motto, No sacrifice forgotten, nor need unmet, continues to guide their purpose and they are a dynamic, agile, and bold organization that adapts to meet the diverse needs of the military community. Through the years, giving back to a worthy cause that supports our troops has significantly enhanced our conference and made a real difference in the lives of our wounded warriors and veterans. This, our 15th year of helping those who serve our country, will be no different! Join us to network with some outstanding corporate partners and our own credit union colleagues to bid on terrific silent auction items to help support the mission of Hope For The Warriors. Here are just a few of the opportunities to help! Donate an item from your credit union to the Showcase Silent Auction or choose to make a donation directly from your credit union. Purchase mulligans at the 25th Annual VADM Vincent Lascara Golf Tournament. Buy raffle tickets for the very popular 50/50 Drawing. Bid on silent auction donations. The DCUC Board will match the funds raised! 4

Optional Tours Saturday, August 11 Private Guided Tour of Colonial Williamsburg with Lunch The tour will begin with a visit to the Sir Christopher Wren Building at William & Mary, the oldest college building still standing in the United States. It was constructed between 1695 and 1700, before Williamsburg was founded. After a guided tour of the Chapel, the Great Hall, and the Grammar School room, the tour will move to the Governor s Palace, lunch at the Kings Arm Tavern and conclude at the Capitol Building. This tour will require a fair amount of walking throughout the Colonial Williamsburg grounds, however shuttles will also be utilized. Cost is $75 (Minimum 15 guests and Maximum 50 guests) Wednesday, August 15 Tour of Shirley Plantation and Visit to the Upper Shirley Vineyards with Wine Tasting and Lunch Shirley Plantation is Virginia s first plantation, founded in 1613, after a royal land grant carved the plantation out of the Virginia frontier. Shirley Plantation is the oldest family-owned business in North America dating back to 1638 when Edward Hill I established a farm on the banks of the James River. The guided tour of the Great House highlights original family furnishings, portraits, silver, and hand-carved woodwork, as well as stories of the Hill Carter family, eyewitnesses to eleven generations of American history. Today, Shirley continues as a working plantation, a private family home, a National Historic Landmark, and a Virginia Landmark. After the tour of the plantation, you will drive to Upper Shirley Vineyards for Lunch and a tasting of their award-winning wines. Cost is $165 per person (Minimum 10 guests and Maximum 40 guests) Accessibility If you sometimes have difficulties walking for long stretches of time, be sure to take advantage of the following offer. Due to its historic nature, Colonial Williamsburg has many walkways made with cobblestones or uneven bricks. Please contact Williamsburg Mobility at 757-561-5262 to inquire about renting a motorized vehicle to assist you with any mobility issues or check them out at www.williamsburgmobility.com 6

Guest Tours These tours that include lunch are part of the Full Guest Registration. Monday, August 13 Tour of Historic Jamestown Island with Lunch at Le Yaca Restaurant Historic Jamestown is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic time. This tour will include the Island, the Archearium, and a visit to the Jamestown Glasshouse for a glassmaking demonstration. Tuesday, August 14 Tour of the American Revolution Museum with Lunch at the Riverwalk Restaurant This new museum recently replaced the Yorktown Victory Center, located in Virginia s Historic Triangle, adjacent to the Yorktown Battlefield where American independence was won. It is a nationally significant facility featuring vibrant galleries with immersive learning environments, interactive exhibits and period artifacts. It also features an expanded living-history program, that will trace the 13 colonies struggle for freedom, resulting in the creation of the United States of America. 7
