From this inspection we graded this service as: Quality of care and support Quality of staffing Quality of management and leadership 5 - Very Good not assessed What the service does well Marie Curie Care at Home service provided a very high level of support in order to meet positive outcomes for people who used the service. This was done in a number of ways involving, hospital discharge staff, GPs, district nurses, and patients, this was when people were able to have choice and have the ability to be a part of how their care was delivered; this meant that people who used the service could be confident that their health and well-being needs were being met. Care planning was implemented by Marie Curie staff in such a way which ensured patients had positive outcomes when receiving end of life care. The service continued to allocate staff with the appropriate skills and experience to patients who lived with life limiting conditions and receiving end of life or palliative care, this meant that they could have their symptoms managed appropriately, be pain free, and to be supported at the end of their life with dignity and respect, in a place of their choosing. The service provided a "fast track" service, and we found that staff responded promptly and professionally, and was highly valued by patients and their families. We found that the service had appropriate systems in place to monitor and improve their quality of service; this involved feedback from district nurses, GP's, carers and families, and this meant that staff could effectively plan the care and support needs of each individual ensuring that not only the patients were cared for but the family were also supported. What the service could do better The service agreed to look at how it uses information it received from patients and their families, and how this will be used to measure outcomes for patients in the future. The service should develop a question and answer forum for staff who are about to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in September 2017, and develop a plan of auditing staff registrations.
