An NIH institute or center (IC) must agree to accept the application. Applicant s request must be made 6 weeks before receipt date. Letter of Intent. Contact with program staff is always highly recommended. 9
Awaiting Receipt of Application (ARA) An ARA form is used to authorize the NIH Center for Scientific Review (CSR) to log in an application for assignment to an IC when the application involves: Budget > or = $500,000 direct cost in any 1 year; High NCI Programmatic Interest; Late Receipt (only when NCI-managed review); and/or NCI-managed review. 10
Pre-Submission Tips Know your ICs and how they work. Study the funding opportunities. Know and contact your Program Director(s). Be familiar with peer review process. Communicate with Scientific Review Officer(s), whether at CSR (http://cms.csr.nih.gov/ ) or NCI or another IC. Assess the competition through Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool (RePORT) (http://report.nih.gov).
