The provision of these Scholarships is to recognise boys and girls with outstanding talents and potential, in a variety of fields and to make it possible for them to come to the School. 11+ Academic Scholarship 13+ Academic Scholarship Sixth Form Academic Scholarship Music Scholarship (11+, 13+ and 16+) Drama Scholarship (11+, 13+ and 16+) Art Scholarship (11+, 13+ and 16+) Design Technology Scholarship (11+, 13+ and 16+) Junior Sports Scholarship (11+) Senior Sports Scholarship (13+ and 16+) Sailing Scholarship (11+, 13+ and 16+) All candidates are required to complete the School Registration Form, sit the Entrance Examination (unless taking Common Entrance or GCSE examinations), undergo an assessment in their relevant field and have an interview with the Head of Lower School, Middle School or Sixth Form. Academic Scholarships Academic Scholarships Academic Scholarships 13+ ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at 13+ (Year 9 or 10 entry) 4 11+ ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at 11+ (Year 7 or 8 entry) APPLICATION Candidates who perform exceptionally well in the School Entrance Examination will be considered for an Academic Scholarship. A reference provided by the candidate s current school will also be taken into consideration. Candidates are required to: Sit the School Entrance Examination Attend an interview with the Head of Lower School DATE OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: 23 JANUARY 2016 APPLICATION Common Entrance candidates may be recommended by their current school to take the Common Academic Scholarship in February or they may elect to sit the Royal Hospital School Entrance Examination on Saturday 23 January 2016. Non-Common Entrance candidates who perform exceptionally well in the School Entrance Examination will be considered for an Academic Scholarship. A reference provided by the candidate s current school will also be taken into consideration. Candidates are required to: Sit either the School Entrance Examination or Common Academic Scholarship Attend an interview with the Head of Middle School DATE OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION: 23 JANUARY 2016 SIXTH FORM ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP (16+ ENTRY) Available to pupils entering the School directly into the Sixth Form (Year 12) or current pupils progressing from Year 11. APPLICATION Candidates may be invited to apply based on their predicted performance in GCSE examinations (or equivalent). A reference provided by the candidate s current school will also be taken into consideration. New pupils entering the School into the Sixth Form should also: Complete a Scholarship Application Form All candidates will be required to: Achieve at least 6 grade A* or A grades (including Mathematics and English) at GCSE Sit an examination (a standard reasoning test containing aspects of verbal, mathematical, non-verbal and spatial reasoning) Attend an interview with the Head of Sixth Form DATE OF SCHOLARSHIP ASSESSMENT: FRIDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2015 5

Music, Drama, Art & Design Scholarships Music Scholarships Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at any level, but normally at 11+, 13+ or 16+. All candidates (11+, 13+ and 16+ entry) will be required to: 6 7 Complete a Scholarship Application Form Achieve a satisfactory performance in the School Entrance Examination, Common Entrance or GCSEs Be able to make a full and active contribution to the musical life of the School, participating in the Orchestra, Chapel Choir, Band, Chamber Choir or any of the other musical groups within the School according to their specialisation Attend an interview and audition with the Director of Music, which will include a sight reading test on their main instrument and a selection of aural exercises. Attend an interview with the Head of Lower School, Middle School or Sixth Form DATE OF ASSESSMENT: SATURDAY 30 JANUARY 2016 In addition please note the following criteria for application:- 11+ ENTRANTS Candidates usually offer two instruments, which may include voice, with at least one at Grade 4 or higher, although it is not necessary to have taken the Associated Board exam. Candidates will be asked to perform two pieces on their first instrument and one on their second. The audition will be looking for potential more than actual attainment. Special encouragement is given to string players and those that have a passion for singing.

Music, Drama, Art & Design Scholarships 13+ ENTRANTS Candidates usually offer two instruments, at least one at Grade 6 or higher, although it is not necessary to have taken the Associated Board exam. They should prepare two contrasting pieces for each instrument. The audition will be looking for potential more than actual attainment. Special encouragement is given to string players and those that have a passion for singing. Music, Drama, Art & Design Scholarships DRAMA SCHOLARSHIPS 16+ ENTRANTS Candidates usually offer two instruments, at least one at Grade 7 or higher, although it is not necessary to have taken the Associated Board exam. They should prepare two contrasting pieces for each instrument. Music, Drama, Art & Design Scholarships ART & DESIGN TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS Sports Scholarships Sports Scholarships Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at any level, but normally at 11+, 13+ or 16+. 10 All candidates (11+, 13+ and 16+ entry) will be required to: Complete a Scholarship Application Form to demonstrate their achievement and potential in art or design technology. Achieve a satisfactory performance in the School Entrance Examination, Common Entrance or GCSEs Submit a portfolio of work for discussion and assessment by the Head of Art or Design Technology Complete a practical assessment as set by the Head of Art or Design Technology Attend an interview with the Head of Lower School, Middle School or Sixth Form DATE OF ASSESSMENT: SATURDAY 30 JANUARY 2016 JUNIOR SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP (11+ ENTRY) Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at 11+ (years 7 and 8) JUNIOR SPORTS TASTER DAYS Candidates are advised to attend one of our Junior Sports Taster Days. While the emphasis will be on experiencing a fun day of sport, our sports staff will be looking for potential sports scholars: 11 FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2015 JUNIOR GIRLS SPORTS TASTER DAY FRIDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2015 JUNIOR BOYS SPORTS TASTER DAY All candidates will be required to: Complete the Scholarship Application Form detailing: Preferred sports and representation at current school, any honours, awards or achievements in sport National, County or District representation or participation Other hobbies and interests

Sports Scholarships 14 SAILING SCHOLARSHIPS (11+, 13+ AND 16+ ENTRY) Available to new pupils entering the Royal Hospital School at any level, but normally at 11+, 13+ or 16+ years. APPLICATION Candidates should complete a Scholarship Application Form detailing all sailing achievements, qualifications, experience and aims for the near future. Ideally, the above information should be endorsed by a recognised authority such as a coach, club representative or head teacher. All candidates will be required to: Achieve a satisfactory performance in the School Entrance Examination, Common Entrance or GCSEs Attend an interview and practical assessment of sailing skills with the Director of Sailing Attend an interview with the Head of Lower School, Middle School or Sixth Form Contribute fully to the School sailing programme DATE OF ASSESSMENT: SATURDAY 30 JANUARY 2016 (OR BY APPOINTMENT) OPPORTUNITIES FOR SAILING SCHOLARS AT RHS The School will Nurture the Sailing Scholar s talent throughout his or her time at the School and instil a desire to excel in sailing beyond school Provide access to training facilities and support the individual through the Elite Sailing programme. Classroom tuition including video analysis Individual fitness training programme designed by an elite sports personal trainer Specific dietary advice Competition training and competitive fixtures. COMMITMENT OF THE SCHOLAR He or she must make a total commitment to sailing at the School and contribute to all aspects of the Elite Sailing programme Have the motivation and aspiration to succeed at a higher level Be able to manage academic and other school commitments alongside sailing Set an example as a role model in terms of attitude, diligence, appearance and performanc He or she must continue to fulfil identified potential and maintain this commitment throughout his or her time at the School Scholars are subject to an annual review 15

Terms & Conditions 1. FINANCIAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR A SCHOLARSHIP OR AWARD Scholarships are awarded as a fixed grant, which is credited against the basic fees of the pupil. Pupils in receipt of a Greenwich Hospital Bursary, those entitled to MOD Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA), or any other discount, may be awarded an Honorary award which confers scholar s privileges but has no financial value. Applicants may apply for more than one scholarship but in the event of an applicant being awarded multiple scholarships, only one will be monetary. The remainder will be honorary and carry no financial value. Scholars may be eligible to apply for additional assistance, by way of a means-tested Royal Hospital School Bursary, should the financial circumstances of the family necessitate it. OBLIGATIONS OF THE PUPIL Pupils in receipt of scholarships are required to contribute significantly to the subject areas under which they were granted their awards. They are also required to work hard, to contribute positively to the life of the Royal Hospital School, to set a good example to other pupils and, in general, to be a credit to the Royal Hospital School. 16 3. OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARENTS Parents of scholars are expected to support and encourage their children to strive in their areas of interest and to uphold the aims and the good name of the Royal Hospital School. Parents of scholars are expected to pay the balance of their children s school accounts by the first day of term. 4. WITHDRAWAL OF THE AWARD Scholarships may be withdrawn by written notice to parents if, in the opinion of the Headmaster acting in good faith, pupils or parents have not complied with the obligations set out at paragraphs 2 and 3 above. Prior to the withdrawal of scholarships, the Headmaster will warn pupils and parents of his intent and will give such pupils or parents one half of a term to rectify the situation. Withdrawal of awards shall take effect from the start of the following term. Awards may be withdrawn by written notice if accounts remain unpaid 28 days after a written reminder has been sent to parents. 5. FEES IN LIEU OF NOTICE The benefits payable under a scholarship do not apply to any term for which the School has required payment of fees in lieu of notice. 6. STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS The Conditions of a Scholarship take precedence over any of the School s standard terms and conditions. In all other respects the standard terms and conditions, as amended from time to time, shall apply and these Conditions of a Scholarship shall be interpreted in accordance with them.
