OUTREACH INITIATIVES: The following outreach initiatives were completed by the SEU during the reporting period: A. Events Sponsored by Educational Institutions Related to Broadcasting Career Opportunities: 1. October 23, 217 FCA Round Up. The local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsored an evening event called Round Up during which 5 students were gathered at McGavock High School. One of the four guest speakers was an AE/Live Events Coordinator from the SEU. He spoke on Christian music in general, our local FISH station, what he does, and opportunities within the industry. 2. February 22, 218 Career Day. SEU s Afternoon Drive Show Host/Production Director participated in a Career Day at Dr. William Burrus Elementary in Hendersonville, TN. She talked to over eighty students and discussed jobs at radio stations, needed skills, necessary education and modern day devices used to listen to the radio. even brought equipment to demonstrate sound effects and human voice variables. B. Job Banks: The SEU participated in job banks and internet programs designed to provide general information about opportunities in broadcasting and to encourage women and minorities to consider future employment. In addition, all job openings have been posted on websites to ensure broad internet recruitment. During this reporting period the following job banks have been used: Christian Women in Media Tennessee Association of Broadcasters C. EEO Training to Management-level Personnel: 1. The Salem Media Group Human Resources Director conducts monthly HR Network Training sessions via teleconference and powerpoint presentations, which include review of EEO policies and compliance. The SEU s Human Resources Manager and Assistant participate in these training sessions each month and then routinely communicate with the SEU s General Manager and other management team members to keep all employees apprised of the company and SEU s policy on equal opportunity employment. 2. The SEU participates in an on-line Ethics and Harassment Training, which is an ongoing program for all entry level managers and above to train them in methods of ensuring equal opportunity and preventing discrimination. During this reporting period, one (1) SEU manager participated in the on-line training. D. Other Activities 1. January 31, 218 Radio Station Tour. Approximately twenty students from Lighthouse Christian School toured the radio station. They met and spoke with on-air personalities and SEU s Operations Manager. They learned about programming, various operations of the radio station, and possible careers in broadcasting. 2. February 23, 218 Radio Station Tour. Between sixteen and twenty home school students from the Isaiah 54:13 Homeschool Group, and four parents, toured the radio station. They were shown the broadcast equipment and studios. discussed who would make good radio personalities, how the station airs phone calls and plays songs, and how songs are selected. They talked about all the different jobs in radio including on air, engineering, and sales. The students were recorded and shown how audio can be manipulated with production software.
