Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel SAEOPP SCHOLARSHIP The Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) is pleased to announce the SAEOPP Survivor Scholarship. TRIO participants are invited to compete for two (2) Scholarship awards of $1,000.00 these awards may be used to help defray postsecondary educational costs during the 2017-2018 academic year. SAEOPP wishes to assist the student that has overcome tremendous obstacles to achieve. Enclosed are the application materials needed to apply for these scholarships. Only one application may be submitted per TRIO Program. Program, used in this context, means an individual project. Institutions which have more than one project (e.g. Talent Search and Upward Bound) may submit an application for each project. NOTE: Institutions/agencies that send more than one application from the same program will be disqualified. Sponsors of applicants MUST BE CURRENT MEMBERS OF SAEOPP AND THEIR STATE ASSOCIATION. (SAEOPP and State Dues must be paid by October 31, 2015). Applications will be judged and rated in the following areas: 1. Complete Application 2. Essay (content, grammar, format, etc.) (50 points) 3. Financial Need (each applicant MUST submit verification of income or family income) (30 points) 4. Two recommendation letters (20 points) 5. Timeliness in submission of all requested materials Each application will be reviewed and rated by the Scholarship Committee (and SAEOPP Board of Directors members, if necessary). No applicant s materials will be reviewed by a person from the same state. Essays are independently reviewed and ranked by three (3) outside (non-trio) readers. Scholarship applications with a raw score of less than 80 will not be considered.
Applicants and their sponsors will be notified in writing of the results in February, 2017. The photos, names and schools of winners and their sponsors will be printed in an issue of the SAEOPP Sentinel. In addition, Scholarship recipients essays will also be published in the SAEOPP Sentinel. In order for winners to receive their financial awards, sponsors must provide official verification of fall 2017 semester enrollment and proof of two weeks attendance in a postsecondary institution. Award checks, made payable to the student, will be initiated upon receipt of the requested documentation and forwarded to the designated mailing address. The deadline for submission of all application materials is January 10, 2017 (11:59 p.m. EST). All application materials, (except for transcripts), are to be submitted online. SAEOPP ONLINE RECOMMENDATION FOR SURVIVOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANT Applicant s Name The individual named above has indicated that you would provide a letter of recommendation in support of his/her application for a Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Scholarship. The eligibility criteria for the scholarship are as follows: Each applicant for a SAEOPP SURVIVOR Scholarship MUST: 1. Have participated in one of the TRIO programs (UB, UBMS, ETS, EOC, SSS or VUB (age 19 and older) during the twelve (12) month period immediately preceding the deadline date for filing this application (November 1, 2014). 2. Be a high school senior with at least a 2.3 cumulative grade point average (Upward Bound, UB Math Science, and Talent Search participants). NOTE: An applicant who is not currently enrolled in school must have met the criteria listed herein at the school last attended, or the applicant must have scored an average of at least 50 on the General Education Development (GED) test. 3. Be sponsored/recommended by a TRIO staff member of the project in which the applicant participates and by an institutional official (faculty, counselor, dean, president, etc.). NOTE: The TRIO staff member must be a current financial member of SAEOPP and a current financial member of his or her respective TRIO state association.
