Conference & Exhibition NAARRI International Conference Advanced Applications of Radiation Technology HOTEL COURTYARD MARRIOT Mumbai, India March 5-7, 2018 Organised by National Association for Application of Radioisotopes and Radiation in Industry ( NAARRI) Mumbai, INDIA In Co-operation With Department of Atomic Energy Government of India & ( ) International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA Vienna, Austria Supported by
Preamble Radiation Technology utilizing radioisotopes and radiation from electricallyoperated machine sources, has made significant contributions in improving industrial production, product quality, material properties, hygienization, shelf-life extension of food products and healthcare. All these applications have directly or indirectly benefitted the society in a number of ways. During the past five decades, significant progress has been made in all facets of radioisotope production and radiation technology programmes. Radioisotopes are produced in nuclear reactors and accelerators in many countries. In addition, availability of varied electron beam accelerators having different energy and power levels have made it possible to design and customize industrial irradiators serving specialised applications. It is possible now to design, develop and commercially operate irradiators based on either radioactive Co-60 sources or electron beam machines for food preservation, municipal waste hygienization, water treatment and environmental applications The demand for radioisotopes for medical and industrial applications continues to grow. The success achieved in many recently developed therapeutic and diagonostic radiopharmaceuticals has contributed in enhancing the demand for these radionuclides. It is necessary to foster efforts to accelerate the development and introduction of more widely available and easily produced products for better healthcare. This will support sustainability as well as growth in the application of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in oncology. The industrial non-destructive testing (NDT) and radiotracer technologies have also progressed significantly. There are many emerging industrial diagnostic technologies which make use of sealed radioisotopes, radiotracers and innovative green imaging technologies for advanced non-destructive evaluation of industrial components and assemblies. Conventional Non-destructive techniques using chemical film based industrial radiography are being replaced with computed radiography, digital radiography and computed tomography.
There are also growing concerns related to the security of some radioisotopes in public domain mainly high-activity sealed sources used in exposure devices and commercial irradiators. In addition, regulatory authorities now have enhanced responsibilities for reventing misuse and restricting more than optimal radiation exposure to members of the public due to wider and prevalent use of medical X-ray equipment. In view of these significant developments, NAARRI is organizing an international conference on Advanced Applications of Radiation Technology (NICSTAR-2018) to have wide-ranging deliberations by experts on the following topics of current interest: New developments in electron beam accelerators and gamma irradiators Radiation processing of food and medical products Radiation processing for enhancement of material quality Radiation assisted environmental remediation Radiopharmaceuticals for healthcare Therapeutic and Diagnostic Advances in radiation oncology Radiation imaging for advanced NDT applications Preservation of heritage articles using nuclear radiation Radiotracer techniques for industrial process diagnostics Radiation monitoring equipment and instruments Socio-economic impact and techno-economic aspects of industrial radiation processing Safety, Security and Regulations in radioisotopes and radiation technology The conference will include plenary sessions, invited talks, poster presentations, panel discussions and exhibition
About the organizers NAARRI National Association for the Applications of Radioisotopes and adiation in Industry is a professional body in India founded in 1976. Since its inception NAARRI has been striving to provide an effective interface between the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and users of radiation technology. To achieve its objectives, NAARRI has been organizing national and international conferences, seminars, symposia, workshop, training courses and awareness programmes. NAARRI has organized six international conferences, the last being NICSTAR-2015 which was held in Mumbai. Theses conferences provided an excellent platform for fruitful interactions and information dissemination among technology providers, R&D personnel and end users.
About the venue Mumbai, the venue of the conference is the Gateway of India and also the commercial capital of the country. The city earlier known as Bombay, (the official name until 1995) is the capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India and the ninth most populous agglomeration in the world, with a population of 21 million as of 2011. The multilingual and multicultural city of Mumbai has many entrepreneurs, large industrial houses, a vast network of suburban trains and also Bollywood. It is one of the most populous urban regions in the world and the second most populous metropolitan area in India. Mumbai offers a plethora of delights for the visitors including the Gateway of India monument, the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Elephanta Caves, the UNESCO world heritage Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CST), Prince of Wales Museum and the Hanging Gardens. The conference will be organized at hotel Courtyard Marriot located in Andheri suburb of Mumbai near to business hub and very close to international and domestic airports. Courtyard Marriot has impeccable accommodations with well appointed rooms and thoughtful amenities. Weather Mumbai has a typical wet and dry tropical climate. The month of March sees minimum temperature of 25 ºC and maximum temperature of 32 ºC. The weather is moderately hot & humid during the period. Connectivity The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (formerly Sahar International Airport) is the main aviation hub in india. Mumbai is connected by air to all major international cities in the world. Accommodation Accommodation for a limited number of local delegates could be arranged on first come first served basis at BARC Training School Hostel at Anushaktinagar, Mumbai. Delegates desirous of staying at the conference hotel can be accommodated on special rates.
