Sincerely, George Mason University ACHIEVES Project Team SPEAKER BIOS Dr. Frederick Parker III, MD, MEd Dr. Parker graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the George Washington University Medical Center and the Ohio State University Medical Center. He obtained a Masters in Continuing Education in 1991 from Virginia Tech. He is presently Chairman of the Intrastate Accreditation Committee for the Medical Society of Virginia and is Medical Director of Continuing Medical Education at Prince William Hospital. He serves as the primary care team physician for George Washington University Athletics and is the team physician for Osbourn High School in Manassas. Dr. Parker is certified in ImPACT Testing and Concussion Management. He and Dr. Ross are associates at Bull Run Family Practice. Dr. Scott Ross, MD Dr. Ross earned his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his Family Practice Residency at Fairfax Family Practice in 1997. Dr. Ross is Certified ImPACT Testing and Concussion Management and serves as the team physician for Osborne Park High School. Jon Almquist, ATC Mr. Almquist is the Director of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Athletic Training Program in Fairfax, Virginia. He provides leadership to the largest high school athletic training program in the country (25 high schools, 50 athletic trainers, and 25,000 athletes). Mr. Almquist has established an Injury Treatment Tracking System that is nationally recognized as a model for secondary school healthcare. An active member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), he served as chair of the Secondary School Athletic Trainers Committee, as a member of the Pronouncements Committee, and as a representative to the NATA Inter Association Task Force for Appropriate Care of the Spine and Appropriate Care for the Secondary School Athlete.
Carey Fike, MS, ATC Ms. Fike is an athletic trainer at Westfield High School in the Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia. Ms. Fike has over 15 years of experience as a High School Athletic Trainer in multiple school systems including FCPS and PWCPS. Jessie Shanks, MS, ATC Ms. Shanks is an athletic trainer at Forest Park High School in the Prince William County Public Schools, Virginia. Ms. Shanks has over 10 years of experience as a High School Athletic Trainer. John Reynolds, MS, ATC Mr. Reynolds is the Head Athletic Trainer at Marshall High School in Falls Church, Virginia and a past president of the Virginia Athletic Trainers Association (VATA). He currently serves as the VATA Secondary School Committee Chair, is a member of the Virginia High School League Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and is the District 3 representative to the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Secondary School Athletic Trainers Committee. Mr. Reynolds was also a co author of Appropriate Medical Care for the Secondary School Athlete and more recently, Mr. Reynolds represented the VATA in working the Virginia Department of Education to develop guidelines for schools pursuant to Virginia s concussion law.
