Hunter Valley Grammar School is a leading independent school in NSW with a proud record of providing excellent pastoral care and high level of personal attention and nurture for all of its students. Hunter Valley Grammar School provides the perfect opportunity for aboriginal students seeking opportunities and pathways afte r Year 12 to obtain a quality secondary education. The partnerships formed with local AECG s will ensure that young aboriginal students will benefit from a education. The School has established Scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students to encourage and support the development of ATSI students entering the school. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible to apply for one of these scholarship students must meet the following criteria: Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and be recognised as such by the local aboriginal community. Be nominated by a Community Representative taking into consideration commitment to studies, extra -curricular school activities (eg. representative of student council, representing the School for sport, debating, etc.), and community involvement, in particular Indigenous community involvement (form attached). Be supported by a written reference from the Principal of the student s current school (form attached). Be a new student to the School entering any Secondary level, Years 7-12. APPLICATION PROCESS & REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION Please apply using the attached Scholarship Application Form. The following statements and documentation will be required: Reference from the student s current Principal or teacher. Statement of support from a member of the student s local aboriginal community. Recent School Reports and Naplan test results. Achievements, certificates or awards to demonstrate the applicant s involvement in co-curricular, service or leadership activities. Any other relevant information that testifies to the applicant s capacity to succeed at Hunter Valley Grammar School. SELECTION Applicants must complete the School s Indigenous Scholarship Application Form in full and submit to the Principal. Successful applicants will have demonstrated throughout the application process that they will make a commitment to learning and the values of as a student of the School. The student has strong academic results for the most recent reporting period with teacher s making positive and affirming comments about the student as a learner.

Selection of the recipients will be on the basis of the recommendation made by the student s current Principal, community member, quality of the application, and a satisfactory interview. All applicants will receive a letter from the Principal advising the outcome of the application and next steps, if appropriate. BENEFIT The award provides full remission of Tuition Fees and School Camps only. (Extras - exclude non-compulsory camps, tours, private music lessons, textbooks and student laptop device). Note: Particular extras are awarded at the discretion of the Principal. Parents/Guardians are required to meet the cost of Uniforms. There are a limited number of scholarships available and are awarded at the absolute discretion of the Principal.
