Annual EEO Public File Report The purpose of this EEO Public File Report ( Report ) is to comply with Section 73.2080 (6) of the FCC s 2002 EEO Rule. This Report has been prepared on behalf of the Station Employment unit that is comprised of KNDO-TV (Yakima, WA) and KNDU-TV (Kennewick, WA) and is required to be placed in the public inspection files of the station and posted on their website, if they have a website. The information contained in this Report covers the time period beginning October 1, 2012 to and including September 30, 2013 (the Applicable Period ). The FCC s 2002 Report requires that this Report contain the following information: 1. A list of all full-time vacancies filled by the stations comprising the Station Employment Unit during the Applicable Period; 2. For each vacancy, the recruitment source(s) utilized to fill the vacancy (including, if applicable, organizations entitled to notification pursuant to section 73.2080 (1)(ii) of the new EEO Rule, which should be separately identified, identified by name, address, contact person and telephone number; 3. The recruitment source that referred the hiree for each full-time vacancy during the Applicable Period; 4. Section IV : Outreach Activities Activity Description Internship Program Mentoring Program Scholarship Fund Participated in Whitworth University's Fall Job & Internship Fair. Station representatives discussed opportunities with KHQ, Inc and provided written material outlining the internship programs as well as a list of kinds of jobs available at a television station and the training and skills required for those positions. Participated in Partners in Employment Career Fair which was hosted by Washington State, Eastern Washington, Whitworth, and Gonzaga Universities. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, KNDO-TV and KNDU-TV. A one-sheet noting the kinds of jobs available at a television station and an explanation sheet regarding the station's internship program were distributed. Participated in Gonzaga University's All Major Career & Internship Fair. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, KNDO-TV and KNDU-TV. Current postings were available for students to review. Participated in Gear Up Career Day at Columbia Basin College. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, KNDO-TV and KNDU-TV. Current postings were available for students to review. The station sponsors an internship program that provides opportunities for college students considering the industry to become familiar with television and broadcasting careers. The station sponsored 3 interns during the reporting year in the news department. During the reporting year KNDO/KNDU hired 1 former intern from our KHQ station for a full-time position. Employees often visit KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington to train with staff in the larger market. News and web personnel have participated in this mentoring activity this reporting year. KHQ, Incorporated maintains a Scholarship Fund with Washington State University directed at students interning and desiring to pursue a career in broadcasting. Events Sponsored by Educational Institutions related to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting KNDU participated in five events including classroom presentations from grade school classes to college classes, and county-wide high school career fairs about broadcast career opportunities and the related educational requirements. The KNDO/KNDU Sales teams receive ongoing training throughout the year from WSAB on line training seminars. The seminars topics included web sales, mobile digital sales, prospecting. All seminars are archived for one year so AE's can view again and again. KNDO/KNDU Sales team attend monthly Leadership Tri-Cities meetings to learn about different areas throughout the cities including health and human services, economic development day, ag day, law enforcement, local and state government day, education, etc. The GM and GSM attended the NAB annual small market conference in Phoenix, AZ in September. The primary focus at this years conference was leadership, personnel management and personal effectiveness. The KNDO/KNDU Sales teams receive online training and resources throughout the year from Center for Sales Strategies. Additionally individuals trained on other courses throughout the year. The News Director attended a News Director Seminar (Kneeland Project) in Ausin, TX. The topics included time management principles, leadership techniques, and news department philosophies. Information was provided on working with young employees, training new employees, and establishing goals and expectations. Several members of the news team met with talent consultant Stephanie Rickel to discuss on-air presentation styles, hair/makeup and voice coaching. The GM participated in a NAB Leadership Course in Washington DC which was held for 3 days a month for 9 months. The KHQ traffic manager and controller attended a conference for WideOrbit users and managers. Participants could select training sessions based on their background (accounting, sales, traffice, etc) and learn in depth background, tips and tricks of the traffic software, etc. Most sessions were interactive in that participants could discuss scenario's and get help with short cuts, answers, etc to take back to their jobs and stations.
