PLENARY SESSION Dr. Edward A. Mainzer has served as a history teacher, building- and district-level school administrator, and for most of the last thirty years, school counselor, working with mainstream and special needs learners in city and suburban districts. A NYSSCA Board member for many years, he was elected a Governor of the American School Counselor Association in 2012. The author of books and articles on counseling, he has been an adjunct professor at three colleges and serves as a member of the Ethics Committee of the National Career Development Association. Dr. Mainzer holds degrees in history from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and New York University, a Masters in Counseling from Hunter College and a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University. KEYNOTE SPEAKER Robert Bardwell has been a school counselor for 20 years and is currently is a school counselor as well as the Director of Guidance and Student Support Services at Monson High School in Monson, Massachusetts. He will join the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Board of Directors in October 2013 and is a former ASCA Secondary Level Vice President. He is a Past President of the Massachusetts School Counselors Association (MASCA) as well as a former Advocacy Chair for MASCA. He is a member of the Professional Development Committee of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and Past-President of the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC). He has served NACAC as both an Assembly Delegate and chair of its Ad Hoc Committee on graduate coursework. SPECIAL GUEST: Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary Singer/Songwriter, Founder and President of Operation Respect Peter Yarrow is one third of the legendary folk music trio, Peter, Paul and Mary (PPM). Since PPM s debut, Peter has been involved in social and political activism, utilizing his skills as both a performer and an organizer. In 1999, Peter co-founded and has since led Operation Respect (OR), a non-profit organization addressing bullying and other forms of emotional and physical violence among children and youth through the implementation of OR s Don t Laugh at Me Program that brings social and emotional learning curricula to schools and summer camps. Operation Respect is providing each attendee with a complimentary Don t Laugh at Me program which includes a cd, video and curriculum guide.
