SUMMARY RECORD of the Seventh Meeting of the Management Board of the NEA TDB III Project 19 February 2008 1. Introduction by chair 1. Bernhard Schwyn, as chair, opened the session. 2. Adoption of agenda 2. The previously circulated agenda (Appendix 1) was adopted for the meeting with the following addition as item 3.: Workshop organization and discussion of the draft proposed by MA/JB 3. Minutes and actions from the previous meeting (All) 3. TDB-III.2007.4/1: Cindy Atkins-Duffin to 1) contact Tom Wolery to see if he would be available to do the intiation for the review of the auxiliary data and 2) to update the proposal made in La Baule and circulate the new version to the MB and EG till November 18 th. Cindy Atkins-Duffin 1) contacted Tom Wolery and he agrees to do the initiation report for the review on Auxiliary Data, 2) circulated to the Management Board and Executive group a new version of the proposal on Auxiliary Data. Action completed. 4. TDB-III.2007.4/2: Participating Organisations to send a list of solids of their interest to the NEA secretariat (auxiliary data review). The NEA secretariat received five answers. Action partly completed. 5. TDB-III.2007.4/3: Mehdi Askarieh to prepare an agenda and programme for the workshop. Action completed. The content will be discussed later. 6. TDB-III.2007.4/4: All participants to send NEA before December 10 th their comments on the final version of the agreement for Phase IV. Action completed. 4. Workshop organization and discussion of the draft proposed by MA/JB 7. Barcelona is proposed as a location because AMPHOS XXI CONSULTING, S.L. (J. Bruno s company) agreed to locally organise the workshop and because the last one in 2000 was very well organised. 8. The workshop is proposed to be held in May-June 2008. This may be too early because of identification of presenters; late September-October is another option. A two-day meeting is the right length for people being present during the whole meeting. 9. The estimated budget for the organisation, room rental, coffee breaks, etc. is 8-10 k. 10. The target participants are the TDB users. There will not be any call for papers. 2

11. The aim of the workshop is to set out the broad task of the NEA-TDB and to give an overview of TDB activities (just presenting highlights). B. Kienzler points out that we have to define the key-speakers very early. C. Tweed stresses the importance to show the limitations and the applicability of thermodynamics for practical issues. H. Wanner proposes to show encountered difficulties (e.g. redox potential of Sn 2+ /Sn 4+ ). 12. Everybody agrees on Barcelona as venue for the meeting. Further discussions are postponed to the phase IV MB meeting. 5. Programme of work for 2008 13. Mireille Defranceschi presents the status of the various reviews (Appendix 2). Iron (stage 1). Manuscript is foreseen to be ready for peer review in summer 2008. The volume will be published beginning of 2009. Thorium. Final corrections are being done. Volume should appear in summer 2008. Tin. Tin(IV) equilibrium studies according to the contract between OECD NEA Paris and the University of Szeged (Professor Tamás Gajda) are in progress. Because the colleague in charge will return from absence on 16 February 2008, a report will be sent to NEA secretariat as soon as possible. Professor Gajda is sure that the remaining 2.5 months till the end of the contract will be sufficient to finish the work. 14. A 1-day meeting is foreseen when the results of the measurements are known (May-June 2008). The meeting will possibly be held in Switzerland; Hans Wanner will attend the meeting. 6. Financial status of TDB III Project 15. Claes Nordborg presents the financial report. It is similar to the one presented during the 6 th MB meeting, 6-7 November 2007. All contributions from the participants are received. We will close the books by 31 January 2008 considering spent and allocated money. 7. Transfer of funds and responsibilities to TDB-IV 16. Everybody agrees to transfer the TDB III responsibilities to TDB IV. 17. Everybody agrees to transfer the remaining funds to TDB IV. SKI, not represented in the present meeting, will not be a member of Phase IV, but gave its consent to such a transfer earlier. 8. Any other business 18. B. Schwyn addresses a special thank to Hans Wanner for his immeasurable contributions since the beginning of the TDB project and thanks all the other members as well as NEA for their work during phase III of TDB. C. Nordborg thanks B. Schwyn for chairing the MB of TDB III. 3
