Call for UAB grant applications for the capture and retention of research talent at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona Agreement of the Research Committee made on 28 June 2017 Preamble The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona wishes to encourage the capture and retention of research talent to promote its research activity as a whole across the areas of knowledge present at the UAB. Given the great difficulty in enabling access to research staff to stable jobs, deriving from the limits set for compliance with the rates of replacement, the UAB has decided to open a call for applications for the capture and retention of research talent through temporary contracts, but with the long-term aim that these contracts should become permanent when the context permits this. 1. Purpose The purpose of this call is to award five grants for the contracting of PhD holding research staff (ordinary researchers) with an accredited research profile, on a co-financing basis. 2. Candidates Candidates for the grants which form the purpose of this call for applications are those who can provide certified accreditation of a research period of at least five years, including a post-doctoral period in other universities or research centres during at least two years. 3. Nature of the grants The grants for contracting research staff have a duration of three years (ordinary researcher contract - Articles 20 and 23 of Law 14/2011, 1 June, on science, technology and innovation and article 11 of the Collective agreement for Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) in public universities) renewable, following a positive report by a panel of independent experts and Advanced Research Accreditation of the Government of Catalonia (AQU) to the Access to the Body of University Professors (ANECA), for periods of five successive years which are also evaluable. 4. Amount and payment The net value of each grant is 23,308 a year. This amount represents 50% of the cost of contracting, which is 46,616. The remaining 50% of the cost of contracting must be paid by the contractee through their own research projects or contracts or by the research groups of which they form part. The total is paid in 14 payments a year. 1

The award of the grant and the implementing of the contract shall not indicate any commitment by the UAB in terms of the subsequent incorporation of the grant holder in the teaching and research staff. 8. Rules on incompatibilities 1. The contracting of the research staff under this programme is incompatible with any contractual or statutory links that may reduce exclusivity of dedication to research activity. In the case of this incompatibility the UAB will withdraw the contract from the researcher. 2

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE REGULATION OF THE SIGNATURE AND AFFILIATION OF RESEARCHERS AT THE UNIVERSITAT AUTÒNOMA DE BARCELONA Recommendations: Authors must ALWAYS include their affiliation to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, regardless of the type of publication or publicity. The term Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona must always appear with no other adjective and must be contained within inverted commas or full stops. It is necessary to place as many callouts next to the author's name as the number of centres or institutions he/she is affiliated to, to make it clear that they are different institutions. The affiliation should appear in this order: Name of department, centre or institute (complete name in original language), the institution on which it depends, postal address, city and country. In the case of centres which depend on different institutions the name of the centre and the institutions on which they depend should be specified. In the case of researcher s in hospital centres who are also university lecturers, both institutions should be included. Incorrect forms: - Using the initials (UAB) to define affiliation to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona - Translating it into other languages, such as English. Search engines use the search term Univ Autonoma de Barcelona for our university, meaning the affiliation in Spanish is also reflected correctly. It should also be remembered that apart5 from these recommendations each journal has its own style guide and therefore the final review will depend on the instructions the authors receives when presenting the article for publications. Independently of the conditions set out by the journal, affiliation with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona must be clearly identified. 7
