Way - Whitehouse Memorial AMVETS Post 35 Inc AMVETS, LADIES AUXILIARY, SONS AND RIDERS 105 JOHN KING ROAD CRESTVIEW, FL 32539 850-682-8435 www.amvetspost35fl.com MAY 2018 VETERANS HELPING VETERANS ISSUE 28 COMMANDER S CORNER It s that time again, fellow AMVETS. Annual election of Officers and Trustees will be Tuesday May 8 th, at the monthly general membership meeting at 7 PM. There will be a final round of nominations before the vote. Current nominees are listed in the newsletter. We have had a very successful year and I have no doubt the 2018-2019 year will be even better. Many activities are planned for May so check the newsletter calendar. On May 6 th the Quarterly District IV meeting will be held at Post 231 in Fountain, at 1 PM. Also the AMVETS Department of Florida Convention will be 8-10 June. This is when we vote for our Department Officers. With our current membership we are authorized approximately 24 voting delegates on the floor. If you re interested in attending please contact me. As of right now we have about 12 AMVETS attending. It s a great opportunity to see your Florida AMVETS Department in action. I have 7 rooms pre-booked at the Rosen Centre. The Post will pay for convention registration and dependent upon funds availability will also pay for 2 nights lodging for AMVET delegates. It s a lot of fun and a chance to get out of town for the weekend and meet fellow AMVETS, Ladies Auxiliary, Son s and Rider s from all the Posts around the state. Have a good month and I ll see you at the Post. Yours In Service Craig Sarrasin, Commander FROM THE AUXILIARY Thanks to those that came out to help with the work party on April 7 th. Ladies Auxiliary was able to donate the unused kid s party items (a truckload) and clean out some space in the storage shed, as well as organize our files and other items in the meeting shed. Our May 1 meeting will include our second and final round of nominations for our Auxiliary and voting for our 2018-19 officers will take place. If you intend to attend convention in June, the preregistration deadline is May 25 th. Please inform SEC Representative Jerri Devoll if you intend to attend. Once again, all program reports are due to department by May 15 th, so please get your hours, time, donations, etc. in to the program chair as soon as possible if you haven t already. Lastly, I d like to take this opportunity to thank the Auxiliary officers and volunteers, as well as members of the Post Trustees and E-Board that have helped me navigate the waters as Auxiliary President. You know who you are - I couldn t have done it without you. My intent when I accepted the nomination last year was to keep the Auxiliary intact, increase member involvement, and leave it in a better place than it was when I started. I have truly enjoyed working with a wonderful group of ladies that truly care about American veterans and servicemen and women. Yours in Service, Suzi Scanlan, President

See our scholarship officer, Beth Mills for further information. AMVETS PROGRAMS Thanks to all who participated in the Golf Tournament! The final numbers are not in yet, but I m sure we will have enough to fund some great scholarships for our local seniors. Whether you helped with the planning, got things ready at the Post, cooked or served food, worked at the course, or just came out to play and enjoy the day, remember that it takes all of us to make things of this magnitude happen. And remember that all of your activities are Programs, so turn in those reports! May will be a busy month, especially the first few days. The Annual EOD Memorial Dedication is on Saturday, May 5, at the EOD School. It s a very powerful and moving ceremony for those who haven t attended. Also on May 5 the Ranger are having their annual open house, always a great time to see what goes on in the woods. They will have demonstrations at 10AM and 1PM and also a car show ($20 entry fee, RSVP to gatoractivitiesfun@gmail.co m). And on Tuesday, May 8, the 7 th Special Forces Group is hosting their Community Day with lots of demonstrations and activities. Bring your walking shoes for that, you ll need them! Time is running out to get signed up for the Convention in June. If you d like to attend please let the Commander know. This is a wonderful time to meet folks from other Posts across the state and get some good training on the office you hold or the office you are interested in. Remember that the May General Membership meeting is on May 8 so that we can comply with the Department requirements. This will be out third round of nominations as well as the elections. AMVETS, don t forget to bring your membership card so you can vote. Yours in Service, Liz Westby dlwestby@cox.net

FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. First up is that due to the general membership meeting being on 8 May we will have our meeting on 1 May at 6:00. On 20 May there will be another "SUNDAY FUNDAY" so if you can please come out and be part of the fun. I want to recognize Sherrie and Suzy Taylor for the awesome job out front with the chairs etc., thank you ladies. There are trustee positions open and I ask that if anyone can step up please do so. The trustees are a more integral part of this Post and the operations than most realize. If you have any interest let myself or Sherrie know and we can provide you with a copy of the duty description. Business/$ is doing well and the canteen is in the black while still improving. Thank you all for your support for the Post. Always yours in service, Bill Hafner, Chairman JV/Richard Richard/Craig Dale/Doc April 8-BALL TOURNAMENT WINNERS
