This process is for children, ages eight (8) and over who have not been baptized Catholic, or have been baptized Catholic but did not receive their first Reconciliation and Eucharist in the second grade as well as for children who were baptized in another faith and wish to become Catholic. The preparation classes begin on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 10:15 a.m. until 11:15 a. m. in the Parish Administration Office Atrium. We are in need of catechists to help in the preparation of the children as well as preparing the parents of the children. Consider the Baptism Committee or more formally known as Infant Baptism Preparation. This group helps prepare parents and their children for the Sacrament of Baptism. We lead baptismal seminars on Sunday afternoons and assist with Baptisms (both once a month). Team members choose weekends that fit into their schedules and work about 3-4 times per year. The Baptism Committee meets only once per year for updates and training. We are currently planning a meeting in October. The contest runs from the start of school through January 31st. Schools can earn money by collecting and submitting UPCs from Community Coffee products. Last year, St. Aloysius School was presented a check by Community Coffee in the amount of $3,087.90! These earnings were used to purchase educational materials for the classrooms and to offset playground renovation costs. Our SAS 2014-2015 grade-level UPC collection competition is underway. For contest purposes, please submit UPCs in an envelope or Ziploc bag labeled with the grade level which is to receive credit. The grade that collects the most UPCs by December 5th will win a prize. Gentle Hands Memorial Service STEPHEN MINISTRY INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP Would you like to learn more about the St. Aloysius Stephen Ministry? Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you Jeremiah 1:5 All are welcome to join us for an evening memorial service for families who have suffered the loss of a child. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 6:30 p.m. St. Aloysius Catholic Church We invite you to arrive early to sit in the garden and pray or reflect near the Gentle Hands Sculpture. On Saturday, November 1, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., St. Aloysius is co-hosting (with the Episcopal Council of Baton Rouge) a Stephen Ministry Introductory Workshop. The half-day workshop will be held at St. Luke s Episcopal Church, 8833 Goodwood Boulevard. It is designed to both enhance participants caregiving skills and to help parishes and congregations explore ways to expand their caring ministry. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and refreshments will be served. Since St. Aloysius began Stephen Ministry in July 2013, ten laypeople have gone through 50 hours of training in order to provide quality one-to-one Christian care to hurting people in our parish. We are recruiting a new class of Stephen Ministers to begin training in January 2015. If you are interested in being a Stephen Minister, attending the workshop is a great way to learn more! St. Aloysius parishioners are invited to attend the workshop free of charge. However, it is important to pre-register so we will have plenty of materials and refreshments.
