WHAT TO EXPECT From Fighting Hawks Identity Use by Athletics vs. Campus

What to expect from Athletics The Fighting Hawks Identity is owned by the Athletics Department. It has full operational use of the marks. However, there are guidelines that will be followed in treatment of the marks.

What to expect from Athletics All teams be branded as Fighting Hawks Logo usage by all conferences Team use on warm up gear, apparel Interlocking ND will remain until funds are available to replace (Most) uniforms to include new logo 2017-18 season

What to expect from Campus New logo will be used around campus to support UND Athletics Non-athletic use must be requested and approved by UND Licensing Non-athletic departments / programs may NOT use Fighting Hawks identity to represent themselves

What to expect from Campus Non-athletic departments will continue to brand themselves using Identity Guidelines UND.edu/identity

What to expect from Campus Why can t campus have free use of the new Athletics logo? 1. The Fighting Hawk Identity does NOT replace the UND Flame Logo which is used to formally represent non-athletic departments. 2. As a NEW brand, there are strict guidelines for everyone to follow.

What to expect from Campus It s not that campus can t use it, it s that it must be used correctly.

WHAT TO EXPECT When Requesting Use

What to expect when requesting use When do I need to request approval? Every time you want to use part of the Fighting Hawks Identity (and a derivative of it). Do YOUR part in protecting this new brand by always requesting approval.

What to expect when requesting use Step 1. E-mail UND.Licensing@UND.edu Step 2. You will be sent a request form to complete or you may complete the request form found on the UND.edu/identity site Step 3. UND Licensing will review the form and notify of decision Step 4. If anything is being purchased by University funds, a TURF is required by UND

What to expect when requesting use Questions on Request Form: 1. How will the Fighting Hawks Identity be used? 2. What is the purpose of use? 3. When will it be used? NOTE: Do NOT create artwork prior to approval. Upon approval, proper files of the logo will be provided to you.

What to expect when requesting use Non-Athletic Use MUST: Support purpose of an Athletics mark Maintain integrity of Fighting Hawks Identity NOT compete with Athletic Dept. initiatives NOT replace UND Flame Logo

What to expect when requesting use Non-athletic use of the Hawks logo will be limited to the full color options only. Non-athletic use of wordmarks may use any of the color options.

NAMING Examples Of Approved Use If you are considering re-naming a department or space on campus to use the Fighting Hawks name (or a derivative of it), know that UND must follow the State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) and University policy.

EVENT NAMING Examples Of Approved Use There are a lot of opportunities on campus to support student engagement by rallying around the Fighting Hawks Identity! EXAMPLES OF APPROVED USE 5K JOIN THE FLOCK Special Events Hawks for Hearts The new Fighting Hawks logo will not be approved for use in event logos. If you have an idea like this, email UND.licensing@UND.edu for approval.

BUILDING DÉCOR Examples Of Approved Use What is considered Building Décor? Fighting Hawks Identity can be requested to display school pride in common athletic and student life areas only. Wall coverings Flooring Window coverings Furniture Signage Lighting Accessories

BUILDING DÉCOR Examples of Approved Use BEFORE moving forward on any new construction projects, campus building renovations or when ordering new furniture, please follow these steps: Contact UND Facilities to guarantee the appropriate process is being followed. Contact UND Design Group for consultation on logos, colors and signage (including examples from other schools). Contact UND Licensing for approval to use Fighting Hawks logo.
