Awarded by The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, this funding will facilitate JRMC s commitment to providing improved, comprehensive oral care to Newark s children who need it most. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Thirteenth Ave. School - Newark, NJ tooth decay although preventable is the most common chronic childhood disease. New Jersey is no exception to this startling trend - and that s a major problem for Robert Marino, Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey Chairman & CEO and Horizon Foundation Chairman. Our Kids' Oral Health Program initiative is going to help improve oral health for young New Jersey-ans with a higher level of risk, Marino states. The rate of untreated tooth decay in children and teens from lower-income households is twice that of higher income families. Early education and intervention can change this and that's what this grant program is all about. " JRMC s Newark School-Based Health Center program has rapidly emerged as one of Newark s main links in connecting its most vulnerable and medically underserved children to quality healthcare. With funding from Horizon s Kid s Oral Health Program, JRMC intends to establish Newark s Thirteenth Avenue School site as its primary dental hub for the surrounding Fairmount and West Ward neighborhoods. One of the primary aspects of this approach is to expand preventive dental services - including the application of sealants and use of dental x-rays for diagnostic screenings. According to a report from the Surgeon General, dental problems and pain has resulted in low income children losing 12 times as many school days to dental illness as higher-income kids per year. JRMC realizes that improved dental care will benefit Newark s children- even in areas beyond their oral health. JRMC is now empowered to reach out to the community, have patients experience positive oral health, and ultimately find a Dental home in Newark s West Ward, stated Dr. Ayanna Bradshaw, JRMC s Assistant Dental Director. These efforts will greatly help in addressing the social and environmental factors associated with low-income conditions. For more info, visit: community.horizonblue.com/kids-oral-health-program/

JRMC Goes Red to Promote Womens Heart Health Throughout the month of February, the JRMC participated in the American Heart Association s Go Red for Women campaign and National Wear Red Day. Sorangie Castillo, Senior Marketing & Development Specialist at JRMC, and her team coordinated with our partners at the Jewish Renaissance Foundation and P.A.R.T.N.E.R to raise awareness and pledge their support for the millions of women who suffer from heart issues. As part of the campaign, JRMC raised $227 in donations from our staff to send to the American Heart Association to help fund research for fighting heart disease. Hearts were posted throughout the JRMC s first floor to showcase everyone who supported the issue. Our efforts cumulated on February 17th when our staff dressed down and wore red for National Wear Red Day. Our staff banded together this year in solidarity for women s health. said Dr. Alan Goldsmith, President and Founder of the Jewish Renaissance Family of Organizations. The large turnout this year shows JRMC s commitment to serving the women in our community and alerting them to their risk of heart disease. In the 14 years since National Wear Red Day was founded, their campaign has made a tremendous impact on the lives of millions of women by educating people about the dangers of heart disease. Women have been taking better care of their health and as such the number of women dying from heart disease has decreased by more than 30 percent. JRMC is proud to continue working with the American Heart Association and Go Red for Women! Learn more about us at jrmc.us ARE YOU CONNECTED WITH US? Open Enrollment Flourishes as ACA Repeal Stunted January marked the end of open enrollment for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, and JRMC s team of Health Insurance Navigators worked tirelessly to help families acquire insurance right up to the enrollment deadline. Their efforts embody JRMC s commitment not only providing quality care, but also helping patient base identify and understand how to best utilize available healthcare resources. Sandra Ardavin, Financial Counselor Manager, noticed the high volume of enrollment this year, with about a 3% increase in New Jersey 2017 plan selections compared to the prior year. Members of the community are still enrolling because they don t know how long until changes will take effect to Obamacare, Ardavin stated in an interview with News 12 NJ, and went on to explain that patients fear having to pay fines or being uninsured. But with growing ACA enrollment numbers and a failure to garner support of the proposed replacement plan - the American Health Care Act (AHCA) United States Congress appears to be leaving Obamacare in place for now. The Open Enrollment Period for 2017 may be over but we re still dedicated to getting you covered. JRMC s team of Health Insurance Navigators are available to provide Education and Enrollment Assistance to help find the coverage option that is right for you. With assistance from our Navigators we can: 1. Guide you through the enrollment process 2. Discover which health coverage options you re eligible for through the marketplace 3. Assist with filing appeals and applying for Medicaid 4. Answer any questions you may have What to bring to your appointment Proof of lawful residency Social Security Card Proof of monthly household income Info on current health coverage Our services are FREE so give us a call (973) 564-1415 Obamacare is the law of the land, said House Majority Leader Paul Ryan in a press event after the AHCA was defeated last month. He went on to admit that Obamacare would remain in place for the foreseeable future Even with open enrollment ending, JRMC provides quality assistance to help patients find the care they need. Contact our Health Insurance Navigator team today! Highlights - Give Kids A Smile Day On February 3rd, in partnership with the American Dental Association, JRMC participated in the national Give Kids A Smile Day (GKAS) to provide free dental care to uninsured children ages 12 years and younger. During this event, children at the JRMC had their teeth cleaned, screened, and checked up. Dental care included free extractions, fillings, and restorative treatments. Fun tips for keeping teeth healthy were provided while patients got to enjoy healthy and delicious snacks. Through these dental care services, children and their parents received the oral healthcare and education they need to maintain healthy teeth and preserve their overall health. JRMC was not alone in its efforts to raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental. According to the American Dental Association, more than 8,000 dentists and more than 23,000 other volunteers took part throughout the country. JRMC was one of more than 100 dental practices and clinics in New Jersey to participate. For more information, visit the American Dental Association s website.

JRMC Welcomes New Heads at Dental Department Dr. Bassam Massabny Dental Director Dr. Bassam Massabny has been appointed as the Dental Director for JRMC s dental clinic. With over 20 years of clinical experience, he brings with him a high level of comprehensive dental care and patient education services. Along with providing on-site dental care to patients in nursing homes and hospitals throughout northern and central Jersey, Dr. Massabny formerly served as a Traveling Dental Director for multiple offices overseeing patient care while managing the office operations and training employees. Additionally, JRMC warmly welcomes Assistant Dental Director, Dr. Ayanna Bradshaw-Syndor, as another great addition to the dental leadership team. Dr. Bradshaw-Syndor has had extensive clinical experiences caring for children and adults in hospitals and dental clinics in New York and New Jersey. Directed by her passion and dedication to care for the underserved, Dr. Bradshaw-Sydnor also serves as a Volunteer Dentist for the KinderSmile Foundation, Inc. working to expand community outreach programs and educate pregnant women in community health centers about maternal and infant oral health care. JRMC is proud to have Dr. Bradshaw-Sydnor lead JRMC s dental operations in Newark. Dr. Massabny and Dr. Bradshaw-Sydnor bring with them a wealth of knowledge, skilled experiences, and dental care expertise to the JRMC, said Shanta Lane, Director of Dental Services. Their passion and dedication to deliver preventative and primary dental services to large low-income populations align with JRMC s mission to ensure affordable, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare services to all patients regardless of income. Patient Testimonials Dr. Ayanna Bradshaw-Sydnor Assistant Dental Director Thousands of patients and families have chosen JRMC to be their primary healthcare provider and as such we ve managed to develop wonderful relationships with our patients. Several of our patients have expressed praise for our staff for being kind, caring, and supportive. To recognize the amazing work our staff has accomplished, here s what some of our patients had to say: For Maria Ruiz, Women s Wellness Unit: Always returns calls bravissimo, sweet and polite with everyone on line waiting to check in. She makes an excellent floor model for many to follow. For our Navigator Team: By not having insurance, I would not have known what to do. They went above and beyond calling me and making sure that I had the proper treatments." For Dr. Fortunato, Dental Department: One of the most respectful, kind, caring, accommodating, intelligent & knowledgeable human beings. For Dr. Chu, Women s Wellness Unit: Sharp & quick. Works with us and not against. She takes pride in what she does and polite enough to return calls.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss on 'Read Across America' Day On March 2, JRMC s pediatric patients joined millions of their peers across the country to celebrate the sixteenth annual National Education Association s (NEA) Read Across America Day. Dozens of Perth Amboy youth stopped by our pediatric department to celebrate Dr. Seuss s birthday and hear JRMC staff read some of his most famous works. Since the program s beginning, Read Across America has continued to generate enthusiasm for reading nationwide, always emphasizing the importance of motivating children to read, said NEA President Lily Eskelsen García, JRMC thanks all participants in Read Across America Day. See you next year! JRMC Partners With Supremo Supermarket The Jewish Renaissance Medical Center understands that our patients are faced with key decisions that impact their health on a daily basis, and not just within the walls of our medical center. In our continuous efforts in guiding our community to a healthier lifestyle, JRMC is partnering with ETC Management - which owns several prominent businesses in the Perth Amboy, including Supremo Supermarket. This partnership, established by JRMC CSO Jorge Cruz in tandem with developer Eddie Trujillo, will help JRMC and Supremo, one of Perth Amboy s largest supermarkets, join efforts in helping Perth Amboy s residents make healthy decisions. Working together with ETC Management, we benefit from expanding our visibility in the community, said Jorge Cruz, As we continue to build upon this relationship, the goal is to work together to develop new marketing strategies that will mutually benefit both organizations, as well as the residents we serve. Keep an eye out for JRMC distributions in Supremo s bi-weekly sales circular, and be sure to buy healthy as you make your next run for groceries! Save the Date Monday, July 17, 2017 You are cordially invited to the Jewish Renaissance Family of Organization s 9th Annual Golf Classic Hosted at:
