What is Mechatronics? Mechatronics refers to the efficient and effective integration of mechanical systems and electronics. It is a blend of mechanics and electronics, and has come to mean the synergistic use of: precision engineering, control theory, computer science, mathematics and sensor technology, to design enhanced or smart products, processes and systems. It integrates the classical fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science/information technology. What is a Career Skills Program? A career focused training program that can prepare the student for a promising career in the mechatronics industry. The target audience, and high risk population, is the 18-24 year old first-term Soldier. Mechatronics is a 16 week (Spring/Fall) or 10 week (Summer) program and the classroom serves as the primary place of duty. This program is an intense accelerated training program that is conducted Monday-Thursday. Spring/Fall hours are from 0800-1200, 1300-1700 or 1800-2200. Summer hours are from 0700-1400 or 1500-2200. Fridays allow time for study hall/make up work (optional but highly encouraged). Twelve students can be assigned to each class. The classes are held in the SSG Glenn H. English Education Center, BLDG 202, Room 1114, Bastogne Ave, FTCKY 42223. Several job fairs will be held to assist Soldiers with major local and national companies interested in this high demand field. Upon successful completion of the training program, graduates may test for the prestigious Siemens certification. This Mechatronics Level I certificate (four classes) can also transfer into a Level II certificate (two year program) or it can lead to a Bachelor s degree. The Career Skills Program Coordinator will monitor the graduation and employment success rates. Applying for the program gives permission to share that information for tracking purposes. What are the requirements for application? Must: Be on Active Duty within 180 days of separation during course dates Secure Command authorization to participate Provide a copy of your Army Enlisted Record Brief (ERB) Receive a Fully Honorable or General discharge Have a high school diploma or GED. Transcripts are required Completed Soldier for Life Program transition classes before the start of class & provide a copy of your DD 2648 (NOV 16) Form (or print out of future appointments) Apply for GI Bill Benefits using a VONAPP 1990 Application to NSCC Proof of citizenship (driver s license and FTCKY orders) Proof of two doses of MMR and chicken pox vaccine

I understand that the Mechatronics Career Skills program is a full-time, 4 days a week, 4-8 hours a day intensive training program with optional 5 th day study hall. I understand that the Mechatronics training is provided using either GI Bill Benefits or Federal Funding. I can see a transition counselor for assistance with VONAPP 1990. I understand that I must be allowed by my chain of command to attend the program. I have a high school diploma or GED certificate and transcript. I understand that strong math/algebra skills are preferred. I understand that first priority is given to Soldiers within 180 days of separation. I understand this program prepares me for the Siemens certification exam. I understand that I must complete the Soldier for Life requirements prior to the class start date & provide a copy of your DD 2648 (NOV 16) (or print out of future appointments). I understand that I must apply with NSCC and follow their application procedures including: immunization records (TN Law), Proof of citizenship, transcripts and $20 fee. I will keep my instructor, chain of command and Career Skills Program Coordinator informed of any issues or concerns I may have. I understand that class is my place of duty and absences will be reported. I will remain professional at all times. I understand that this program is a privilege and I give NSCC, employers and the Career Skills Program Coordinator permission to track my graduation and employment success rates. I may be contacted at 30, 60, 90 days and 1 year following graduation and employment for program quality, suggestions and feedback. I have read the above information in Section I and I fully understand the requirements as a participant in this program. BATTALION COMMANDER AND COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR PORTION. Service member is transitioning from Fort Campbell and approved to participate in the Mechatronics Career Skills program. We understand that our support of this program allows the service member to participate in an accelerated training program. We understand that the service member may request a voluntary early separation to their enlistment obligation to meet program end date. We will support the service member s participation and attendance in this program, if selected, for the entire duration of the training and understand the Service member s place of duty (Monday thru Thursday, and occasional Friday study hall time) is the training program site. We understand as part of the Mechatronics Program there will be scheduled field trips, guest speakers and mini job fairs with Companies that provide employment opportunities in the Mechatronics Industry Field. These occasional events may not always occur during the student s assigned class time but participation is required to complete the program. We can request attendance information at any time from the Education Center as all Soldiers are required to sign in and out of all classes.
