GRADUATE ENTRY NURSING A REWARDING PROFESSION. The aim of the Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry) course is to provide graduates with eligibility to apply for registration in Australia as Registered Nurses. WHAT YOU LL STUDY Graduation from the Bachelor of Nursing (Graduate Entry) course requires the successful completion of 17 units in the recommended schedule. Students commence this course by undertaking an accelerated introductory unit providing an overview of the knowledge and skills in fundamental nursing practice. Satisfactory completion of this unit enables progression to the other 16 core units. Areas of study include: conceptualising nursing; primary health care in action; evidence based professional nursing practice; application of behavioural, social and biophysical sciences in nursing and health care. These include 1) A National Police Check or a criminal record clearance card/letter; international students require a police check (with English translation) from their own country or any country they have lived in, as well as one from Australia; 2) Meet NSW Ministry of Health verification requirements with regard to immunisation (a completed vaccination card with serology results); 3) Signed NSW Health Code of Conduct; 4) Signed Student Undertaking Placement/Declaration; 5) Completed Working with Children Check leading to the issuance of a clearance number under the category of volunteer. CHILD FAMILY HEALTH (KARITANE) The aim of the Master of Child and Family Health (Karitane) is to provide Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives with theoretical knowledge and associated skills that prepare them to work autonomously and across a variety of clinical settings with children and families. Graduates will be able to apply advanced nursing concepts and analysis, and lead nursing practice to promote optimal health outcomes for children and families. This will involve among other things, design, implementation and evaluation of advanced clinical nursing care systems, and analysis and synthesis of nursing concepts leading to a basis for advanced nursing practice and the facilitation of change. WHAT YOU LL STUDY Graduate Certificate: Child and Family Health: Professional Practice and Frameworks, Child and Family Health Practice: Supporting Growth and Development, Clinical Practice: Infant and Child Nutrition and Feeding, Healthy Families and Communities. Graduate Diploma: The above 4 units plus Partnership in Practice, Perinatal Mental Health, Evidence Based Health Care, and one elective. Master: The above 8 units plus Cultural and Social Diversity in Health Care and an elective. You will have the choice of completing one of these two-semester long units capstone experience or a research project in health care OR completing both of these single semester units Writing for Publication and Scholarship for Practice Change in Health Care. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Child and family health nurses may work in integrated service models in: primary settings, including home visiting and centre-based services secondary level service delivery including family care centres, sustained home visiting programs and outreach specialist services tertiary level service delivery including residential family care facilities. Practice nurses who work with families with young children will find this qualification enhances their skills and knowledge, and promotes working in partnership with families to provide effective help. MIDWIFERY TAKE YOUR CAREER TO ANOTHER LEVEL. The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery is designed for Registered Nurses who wish to pursue a career in midwifery the art and science of providing holistic care to the woman and family throughout the childbearing process. The course provides you with the opportunity to gain a recognised tertiary qualification and registration to practice midwifery. It is presented in conjunction with public hospitals in Sydney and is approved and recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency/Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. There is one intake per year in January.
