The Agency s (EDA s) MISSION EDA was established by the Council of the EU (ex Council of Ministers) in 2004 inter alia to improve Union s defence capabilities EDA shall contribute to strengthening the industrial and technological base of the defence sector In May 2017, Ministers of endorsed the reinforcement of the EDA as: facilitator towards the Commission (EC) and EU Agencies exploiting wider EU policies to the benefit of and central operator with regard to EU funded defence-related activities. 2

Preparatory Action for Research 2017 Calls for proposals (all closed) Technological demonstrator for enhanced situational awareness in a naval environment (platform & sensors + data exploitation): - Consortia with min 5 legal entities from 5 different MS (+ NO) - 15.50 m (for one awarded project) Force protection and advanced soldier systems beyond current programmes: - Consortia with min 3 legal entities from 3 different MS (+ NO) - 6.78 m (to be split among awarded projects) The Research Runway: - 0.95 m (for one awarded project) 8

2017 Calls for proposals (closed) In response to the 3 Calls: 24 proposals submitted, from consortia including 190 entities (some applying to various calls in different consortia) 9
