Garber Drive Tipp City, Ohio 45371 ODOT District 7 1001 St. Marys Avenue Sidney, Ohio 45365 The City of Tipp City, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is holding an Open House Meeting to provide interested parties an opportunity to review and comment on proposed improvements to East Main Street, from First Street to Canal Lock Park and the Great Miami River Recreation Trail. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions and take your comments regarding the proposed improvements. At 7:00 pm, the City and its design consultant will provide a brief project update, followed by an opportunity for citizens to make public comments or ask questions publicly, if they choose. Citizens desiring to make public statements will be asked to limit their statements to less than three minutes. Following the public presentation and forum, citizens will be provided an opportunity to speak oneonone with members of the project team. We encourage you to stop by and discuss the project with the project team. The project will include work within the Tipp City Historic District. Please provide any concerns you have regarding the project s involvement with the historic district: The project will require an open cut into the abandoned Miami & Erie Canal and race, to allow for the new water main. Please provide any concerns you have regarding the necessary involvement with the abandoned Miami & Erie Canal: The project will require temporary work with Canal Lock Park and will require the temporary detour of the SR 571 crossing of the Great Miami River Recreation Trail. East Main Street Reconstruction (MIA57115.03, PID 103160) Section 106 Consulting Party Request Form The City of Tipp City proposes to upgrade pedestrian facilities and infrastructure on State Route 571 (East Main Street), from First Street to Canal Lock Park and the Great Miami River Recreation Trail. The west portion of the project is located within the Old Tippecanoe Main Street Historic District. In addition to the roadway/sidewalk reconstruction within the historic district, the project will require an open cut through the former Miami & Erie Canal (to allow for the water main installation), will remove an abandoned cistern from within the road rightofway, and may need to temporarily remove the protruding sign at the Roller Mill (to protect it during construction). Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 requires Federal agencies to consider the effects of their actions on historic properties. The Section 106 process seeks to incorporate historic values into project planning through consultation among the Federal and state agencies, and other parties with an interest in the effects of the undertaking on historic properties. Individuals or organizations with a demonstrated interest in the effects of the undertaking on historic properties may be invited to become consulting parties. The various consulting parties work together with the project team to collect data regarding historic resources, discuss options, provide multiple viewpoints, and seek common agreement on the incorporation of historic preservation values into the project.
