Academic News Pa e2 To: From: Date: Subject: La Salle Community Richard Nigro, Provost October 9, 2007 Appointment of New DeanJ School of Business I am pleased to announce the conclusion of the search for the Dean of the School of Business. As you know, we have been engaged in this process for two years. During each of these years we were close, very close, to identifying someone whom we thought was the right person. But each time, Hlife" intervened and our search continued. The President, the Search Committee, and I believe that we now have the right person at the right time. Paul Brazina, who has served as Interim Dean with distinction, has accepted our invitation to be the next Dean of the School of Business at La Salle. I ask that you join with me in congratulating Paul and in offering him your support. Please indulge a brief reflection as part of this announcement. At times, we enter searches thinking that we need to fill a position. I have never been completely comfortable with this view. A search, at its best, is a learning process where both the candidates and the institution have the opportunity to learn or re-learn what the work is all about, especially at a given historical moment. I am part of a generation that wasn't required to memorize much poetry. But a few lines from T.S. Eliot's "Little Gidding" have stayed with me far longer than I care to remember, and they seem to apply to this search. We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. We all look forward with confidence to Paul's leadership.
