MEET THE EXPERTS Dr N Thiyagar Dr N Thiyagar is a Consultant Paediatrician & Adolescent Medicine Specialist. He is currently the State Consultant for Paediatrics and the Head of Paediatrics in Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Kedah. He is the Vice President of Malaysian Association for Adolescent Health and the Immediate Past President of Malaysian Paediatric Association. Dr Lucy Bailey Dr Lucy Bailey is Associate Professor in Education at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. After graduating from the University of Oxford, she completed her MA in the Sociology of Education at the London University Institute of Education and her PhD in Sociology at the University of Bristol. She is now engaged in a range of research and consultancy work focused on social transformation and social inclusion through education. Dr Rajini Sarvananthan Dr Toh Chin Lee Dr Toh Chin Lee is a Senior Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Head of Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at Selayang Hospital. He trained in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Royal Children s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia from 1990 to 1992. He is the President of the Asian Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (ASCAPAP). He is also the President of the Malaysian Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Paul Jambunathan A pioneer of applied psychology in Malaysia, Paul Jambunathan deals with psychological issues across the human lifespan. He is Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Monash University Malaysia and Paul J Psychology Consultancy. With professional experience in Britain and Australia, Paul is a proponent of emotional intelligence, positive psychology and effective living with stress. He is an accomplished and passionate Scuba Dive Master, and he is also passionate about ecopsychology. Dr Rajini is a Consultant Developmental Paediatrician at Parkcity Medical Centre, Baby and Beyond Child Specialist Clinic and a visiting consultant at University Malaya Medical Centre. She has been working with children with special needs since embarking on her career in Paediatrics in the UK in 1994. She is also a mother of three beautiful daughters. 5
MEET THE EXPERTS Dato Dr Amar Singh Dato Dr Amar Singh is involved in children with disability and the development of services for children. He is the Senior Consultant Paediatrician and Head of Paediatric Department & Clinical Research Centre at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh. Dr Amar is also the Immediate Past President of the National Early Childhood Intervention Council. He is the recipient of Outstanding Asian Paediatrician Award and SENIA Advocacy Award. Dr Hartini Zainudin Dr Hartini is currently a philanthropic and fundraising consultant by day and always a child rights activist. She was the CEO of Yayasan Siti Sapura Husin, a not for profit foundation that works with the poor and marginalised, focusing on the needs of children, the elderly and the blind. She is the founder of Yayasan Chow Kit (formerly known as NurSalam) and served as the Head of Advocacy and Funding as well as the Outreach program in Chow Kit. She is the Vice President of Voice of the Children, a local NGO that does advocacy work, law and policy reforms and training on children s issues. Hartini received her BA and MSc in English and English Education, respectively, and has her Doctorate in Monitoring and Assessment (Education) from Columbia University, New York. Mary Easaw Mary Easaw-John is a Senior Manager of Dietetics and Food Services at Institut Jantung Negara (National Heart Institute) with 35 years of experience in dietetics, clinical nutrition and food service management. She holds a first class Bachelor s of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Madras in Chennai, India, a Professional Diploma in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Sciences with a Distinction, and a Masters in Advanced Healthcare from John Moores Liverpool University, UK. In 2016, she was bestowed the Outstanding Dietitian of the year by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, USA. Katyana Azman Katyana obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Graduate Diploma of Psychology from Deakin University, Australia. She was then awarded a Master of Science in Health Psychology by City University London, UK for her research on the emotional ramifications of childhood asthma on Malaysian paediatric patients at University Malaya Medical Centre. Most recently, Katyana was appointed as the resident Child Psychologist at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where she is responsible for carrying out assessments and interventions for children with psychological afflictions, whilst simultaneously establishing a network of support for their primary caregivers. 6
