Scholarship Information Financial Edge, OHS's source for scholarships, provides students with an updated list. Bridges provides users with personalized planning resources to access, explore, and structure a personal portfolio. School Soup provides students with the most scholarships and other financial aid on the internet - over $32 billion in scholarship awards. College & Career Room The Oviedo High School College/Career Room has provided a much-needed service to the students at OHS since 1985. Staffed by Dividend volunteers, the College/Career Room is located in the Guidance Office. It is open daily. All scholarship announcements will be posted in the Senior English classrooms and in the College room in Guidance. Don't let somebody else get the $ you deserve! Get these applications in! Note: This is not a legal document, and specific details should be checked with the College Room, Mrs. Lightsey in Guidance, or the organization providing the scholarship. Scholarship Update Attention all students interested in obtaining scholarships for college: Your College Room is a valuable source of information on scholarships that we hope you will utilize. Beginning in September, seniors and parents of seniors will receive a weekly Skyward blast of the Scholarship Updates. This update will include information about scholarships with approaching deadlines as an encouragement to seniors to apply. Although most scholarships target seniors, many are available to underclassmen as well. Everyone is encouraged to go to the OHS website> Guidance>Scholarship Info to access this important information. We will also place a copy of the announcement in

an orange binder in the college room and ask senior English teachers to post it on their bulletin boards. Applications for the scholarships will be on file in the College Room, and adult dividends are available on some days to assist you in your search. Please take advantage of this service that will be offered throughout the year, and see your counselor if you have questions regarding scholarships. Seniors interested in pursuing a career in the culinary arts are invited to apply for scholarships through the James Beard Foundation. Information about applying for these scholarships, which vary in amount based upon the school you attend, is available in the college room. Deadline to apply is May 15 th. Attention seniors: The Seminole County branch of the NAACP is offering a scholarship to students having at least a 2.5 GPA. Find out how to apply for this scholarship in the college room. Application deadline is May 18 th. Seniors, if you are the son or daughter of an enlisted member of the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard, you are eligible to compete for the Navy Wives Clubs of America Scholarship. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 30 th. Seniors interested in pursuing a career in animation are invited to apply for the Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded, and more information is available in the college room. Deadline to apply is June 1 st. Attention Seniors: The Aspiring Business Professional scholarship worth $1,000 will be awarded to students interested in pursuing a business degree. Deadline for applications is June 1 st, and more information is available in the college room. Seniors interested in pursuing a career in fashion are invited to apply for the Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship Program. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded, and more information is available in the college room. Deadline to apply is June 1 st. The Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Florida State University will award a $500 Men of Principle scholarship to an incoming non-greek affiliated male student who best demonstrates the values of Beta Theta Pi, makes a positive impact on his community, and excels academically. Directions about applying for this scholarship are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is June 1 st.

Seniors, if you were a high school athlete, you are eligible to apply for the Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship of $1,000. To enter you will be required to submit a 400-500 word essay describing how playing sports positively impacted you. You do not need to be an athlete at the college level. For information about the scholarship and essay visit the college room, and the application deadline is June 1. If you are a senior with hemophilia, von Willebrands or other related hereditary bleeding disorders, you are eligible to apply for a scholarship through the Hemophilia Foundation of Greater Florida. Awards will be based upon merit, need, community service and aspirations reflected in an essay. Information about applying for the scholarship is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 30 th. Seniors, the Defensive Driving Scholarship valued at $1,000 will be awarded to the winner chosen on the submission of a video and the completion of a survey. More information is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 30 th. Seniors, the Brooks Law Group is offering a scholarship based upon an essay contest. The first place winner will receive a $1000 scholarship, and the second place winner a $250 scholarship. Visit the college room to find out the essay topic and get your application. The deadline for submission is May 1 st. Attention seniors, the Florida State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will award more than 25 scholarships to students for their outstanding academic achievements. Applications for the scholarships are in the college room, and the deadline to apply is May 10 th. All students are invited to apply for scholarships provided by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Over $150,000 through more than 25 scholarship to students for their outstanding academic achievements. Scholarships are available in a wide area of study through state and national scholarships. The various DAR scholarships each have different requirements, and information about applying is available in the college room. Seniors, you are invited to enter an essay contest sponsored by the Holliday & Karatinos law firm with combined prizes worth $4,500. You can get more information about the contest in the college room, and entries are due by May 15 th. Attention seniors: The Seminole County Council of PTAs/PTSAs

will award scholarships on the basis of financial need and academic performance. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 19 th. Seniors, the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor her legacy as an advocate for youth and supporter of community service. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate leadership in community service or other extracurricular activities, and have a combined family income of less than $100,000. Applications for the scholarship are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. Seniors, the Florida Council of the Blind is offering the Timothy Turpin Scholarship of $1,000 to a senior legally blind that has exhibited leadership skills and academic proficiency. Information about the scholarship is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. Attention African American male high school seniors: The Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will award up to $10,000 in scholarship funds in the form of $2,000 awards to individual students. Information about applying is available in the college room, and the deadline is April 9 th. Seniors interested in running are invited to apply for the Charles M. Rowson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Orlando Runners Club. The club will award $1,500 scholarships to a total of four students. The application for the scholarship is in the college room and must be submitted by the April 10 th deadline. Seniors, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford is sponsoring an essay contest with an award of $1,000 to the writer of the winning essay. The essay is on the topic of volunteer services and the local community and must be received by the Kiwanis Club by the April 13 th deadline. Attention all seniors, the Fleet Reserve Association offers several scholarships to children and grandchildren of members of the United States Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard. Applications are available in the college room and must be submitted by the April 15 th deadline. Attention seniors of the Jewish faith: The Kobrin Family Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $2,500 per year for a maximum of four years to a student who will attend UCF. Financial need, GPA, and test scores are considered, and

preference is given to students who are of the Jewish faith. Applications are available in the college room and must be submitted by April 30 th. Attention seniors, the College Assistance Migrant Program at the University of South Florida provides financial assistance, support services, and cultural enrichment opportunities to students from migrant and seasonal farm-worker backgrounds during their first year at the University. Information about the program, which includes a $3000 scholarship, is available in the college room. The deadline to apply is March 15 th. Seniors, the Phil Cloninger Memorial Scholarship was established by the Oviedo/Winter Springs Regional Chamber of Commerce to be awarded to a deserving local high school senior. The application for the $2,000 scholarship is in the college room and must be submitted by March 30 th. The Matthew Caselli Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the 2013 graduate of Oviedo High School. Matthew s surviving brother and sister triplets, Mario and Meaghan, along with their parents, have funded a scholarship valued at $500 to honor Matthew s legacy. To qualify, you must be an OHS senior, have a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate leadership in community service or other extracurricular activities, and plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice or ROTC. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 5 th. Seniors, the Johnson Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships to deserving children of UPS employees. You can obtain more information about these scholarships in the college room. Deadline to apply is April 1 st. The Herbert Lehman Education Scholarship will be awarded to an African American senior with outstanding potential as evidenced by their academic records, test scores, and personal essays. Candidates must have a record of community service and school involvement. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 1 st. Attention seniors interested in majoring in education: The Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) Educational Foundation awards scholarships to prospective educators. Seniors the Fairwinds Credit Union is sponsoring an essay contest and will award two $2,500 scholarships. To enter, you must be a member of Fairwinds Credit Union. Applications and information about the essay topic are available in the college room. Deadline to apply is April 6 th. Attention seniors: The Historical Society of Central Florida is pleased to announce the annual essay competition for the Scott Harris Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is for $2,500 and will be awarded on the basis of an essay about how community history shapes people s lives. Applications are available in the college room and the deadline to apply is April 13 th. Attention seniors: The Pearlie s Lift Up Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student who has struggled personally or academically in school, given back through service to his or her community, and wants a second chance in furthering his or her education. Applications are in the college room, and the deadline to apply is April 15 th. Attention senior girls: The Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority is offering a $1000 scholarship to a senior girl planning to enter the field of education. Applications are available in the college room. Deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 30 th. Seniors, the Chi Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is offering two $500 scholarships based upon financial need and academic performance. Applications for the scholarship are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 23 rd. Seniors, the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando is offering scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage who plan to enroll full time in a accredited college or university in Orange, Seminole, Osceola or Lake county. To qualify, you must be of Hispanic heritage and have an unweighted 3.0 GPA. Information about the scholarship is in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 30 th.

Attention all senior girls: The Suburban Republican Women s Club will award scholarships of at least $1000 to females who have shown leadership in school or community activities. Applications for the scholarship are in the college room and must be mailed by the April 1 st deadline. Attentin all students: the Oviedo-Winter Springs Optimist Club s Most Improved Student award of $500 will be given to one Oviedo High School student based upon their academic improvement this school year. The candidate must be someone who has shown a spirit of making a difference through volunteering or helping others, have no referrals. The student may be a current A/B honor roll student but should not have a history of attaining this. If you feel you qualify, pick up the information in the guidance office and see your counselor or a teacher for a nomination. Attention Seniors: If you are a dependent of a Walmart Employee, you are eligible to apply for scholarships sponsored by the Walmart Foundation and the Walton Family Foundation. To find out more about these scholarships, please visit the college room. Deadline to apply is April 2 nd. Attention college-bound seniors: The Masonic Fraternity of Orange, Seminole, and Osceola counties is sponsoring the Henry T. Weatherall Memorial Scholarship Program. Application packets are available in the college room for the $1000 scholarship and must be submitted by the April 2 nd deadline. Seniors, the Omega Psi Phi fraternity Friendship Foundation will award scholarships of $500 to seniors in Orange and Seminole counties based upon GPA, community service and leadership. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. Attention seniors: The Central Florida Chapter Women In Defense is offering a $1000 award to seniors interested in a career in national security, defense, or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) related field. Applications for the award are in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. Seniors, the Florida Association of Federal Education Program Administrators will award the Vivian Scott Scholarship to students based upon financial need, academic achievement, and activities. Applications are available in the college room, and completed applications must be turned in to Ms. Lightsey in the guidance office by February 26 th.

Attention all future Gators! The Central Florida Gator Club, an affiliate of the University of Florida Alumni Association, is pleased to announce six new scholarships. To apply, you must be a senior who has been accepted into the University of Florida. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. The American Legion Auxiliary will award several scholarships to students who qualify in a variety of categories including children of veterans who served in the Armed Forces or members of the American Legion or Auxiliary. Get more information in the college room to find out how to apply for these scholarships. Deadline to apply is March 1 st. Seniors, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation will award scholarships to children of Marines who plan to attend a non-degree certificate program or vocational training that is 12 months or less at a community college or private career school listed on College Navigator. Get more information about the scholarship in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 1 st. Attention African-American seniors: the Sanford Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is offering scholarships to deserving students committed to pursuing a higher education. Factors considered in evaluating applications include leadership, community involvement, academic achievement, and financial need. Visit the college room to obtain your application. Deadline to apply is March 7 th. Attention seniors, the CFE Federal Credit Union will be awarding a total of six scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each to selected eligible members or dependents of members of the credit union. Winners will be selected by lottery. The deadline for the application is May 31 st, and applications are available in the college room. Seniors, the Kiwanis Club of Oviedo/Winter Springs will award a scholarship to a local high school student who has at least a 3.0 grade point average. Applications for the Kiwanis scholarship are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 31 st. All students grades 9-12 are invited to compete for a $2,500 scholarship in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest. Students are required to prepare an original speech of about four minutes based on an assigned topic. You can get more information about the March 27 th contest in the college room.

Attention seniors interested in a career in cosmetology: Orlando Great Clips salon owners are pleased to offer four $500 scholarships to be used toward tuition at any cosmetology or barbering school in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, or Volusia county. Applications for the Great Clips scholarship are in the college room. Deadline to apply is March 31 st. Attention senior African-American female students: The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will award a $1000 scholarship to one senior in good academic and social standing. Applications are available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 30 th. Attention seniors, the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools will award several scholarships to graduating seniors of Seminole County high schools. Among the scholarships that will be awarded to Oviedo High School students are the Colonel Joseph F. Nardo Scholarship and the Catherine Toots Nardo Scholarship. There is only one application you must complete to apply for these awards, and that application is available in the college room. The deadline to apply is March 30 th. Scholarships will be awarded at Senior Awards Night, so come to the college room for information on applying for these Foundation scholarships. Attention seniors: The Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association is offering a full-ride scholarship to a student planning to pursue a degree at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality. Applications for the scholarship are in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 9 th. Attention students interested in pursuing a degree in hospitality. The Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association will award a scholarship of $1,000 per year for four years to a student with a 3.0 GPA and a financial need. Two additional scholarship opportunities are also available. You can obtain your application in the college room. Deadline to apply is March 23 rd.

Seniors, the Fisher House Heroes Legacy Scholarship will be awarded to children of active duty personnel, Reserve/Guard, and retired military members or survivors of service members who died or were disabled while on active duty. The deadline to apply is March 16 th, and applications are available in the college room. Attention seniors: Collins Dental is offering a $500 scholarship to an Oviedo High School senior who is interested in pursuing a career in the dental or medical field. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 average and must complete an application and essay. Information is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 20 th. Attention seniors: the Oviedo Historical Society will again award a $500 scholarship to an Oviedo High School student with a special interest in history. Seniors, the Robert Locke Scholarship was established in memory of the 2006 Oviedo High graduate to recognize and assist an OHS senior planning to major in theatre at the college level. Applications for the scholarship are in the college room and should be submitted to Mrs. Lightsey in Guidance by the March 31 st deadline. Attention senior girls: the Woman s Club of Sanford will award scholarships based upon GPA, community service, values, career goals, and financial need. Applications for the scholarship is available in the college room, and the deadline to apply is March 30 th. Seniors, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students of Hispanic heritage based upon academic achievement and financial need. Application deadline is March 30 th, and you can get more information about applying in the college room. Attention all students grades 9-12: You are invited to participate in an art contest in which your artwork expresses patriotism. The contest is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and awards ranges from $500 to

$10,000. Find out more about the contest in the college room. Deadline to submit your artwork is March 31 st. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War awards two $2,500 scholarships annually to deserving seniors. To apply, male students must be a current member of the organization and female applicants must be the daughter or granddaughter of a current member and a member of an affiliated organization.
