Ahn RE: Announcement of 2013 Community Outreach Grants The Parish & Community Team of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference will be meeting this fall to review applications from churches for grants to fund new programs in the local church designed to reach out beyond our walls and to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world with emphasis on the Four Focus Areas: (1) Leadership Development; (2) Congregational Development; (3) Ministry with the Poor; and (4) Global Health. THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA APPLY: Grants are intended to help start new ministries at local churches and not to sustain established programs. Grants are provided for one year at a time and not awarded for more than three (3) years to the same project. Preference is always given to new ministries at local churches that have not received funds previously. Only one project per church should be submitted. Project goals need to be according to the Four Focus Areas: (1) Leadership Development; (2) Congregational Development; (3) Ministry with the Poor; and (4) Global Health. Grants cannot be used to fund staff positions, equipment or capital improvement. Churches and ministries receiving grants must submit a copy of the Safe Sanctuaries Certification. Preference is given to local churches which have paid their fair share in the previous year. District Superintendent of the local church requesting funds needs to recommend the project. Please make sure that your application meets all criteria. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Applications for these grants will be mailed after September 1, 2012 to churches that request them from the Program Team office (732-359-1043). They will also be available for download from the conference web site: www.gnjumc.org. 2. Please use the 2013 application in order to be considered for funding. 3. The District Superintendent will send his/her recommendation directly to us. Make sure that you contact your District Superintendent with enough time to review your application and send recommendation on time. 5. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 6.
