Volume 12, Issue 5 Page 3 Comments From the New Group Commander. So far the group staff has been attempting to work towards Lt. Col. Conte s goals for the unit. The group staff is currently in a stage of correction and we are rectifying the PowerPoints, missed orders, and other things that had previously been neglected. I hope to be done with this said process by the end of this year, but there may be confusion and other complications that may arise that may cause the date to be pushed back to a later date. -C/Lieutenant Colonel Potter UPCOMING EVENTS! Washington Township Drill Competition! Page 4 Washington Township was a very interesting experience from the bus ride all the way to the hotel. We woke up relatively early to be prepared for the competition and came down to the lobby and off we went. At the competition we saw many different JROTC units and schools. We saw how they got their awards and also the Army, Navy and Marine units. During this competition we participated in many different activities including Armed and Unarmed regulation; we also participated in color guard and even had a cadet perform in armed exhibition and the team earned a 3rd place trophy. We got very high scores but they just beat us to third place for both Color guard and unarmed regulation. This competition was a very interesting experience for all of us and we cannot wait to return with an even bigger Drill Team and take more trophies home. -C/2d Lt Dunivan (Drill team Commander)
Volume 12, Issue 5 Colonel s 2017-2018 School Year Thoughts Page 5 C/Captain Dickerson: What do you expect for the 2017-2018 school year? Lt Col Conte: What I would like to see is cadet ownership of the cadet corps, with cadets showing the initiative instead of being told what to do. It shows a transition from followership to leadership which is a big step. They know what to do but are apprehensive to do it; they wait to be told to do something when they don t need to do that. I would like to see more positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement. We should be aware of when negativity occurs so we can end it. Esprit de corps leads to more camaraderie and it leads to a very healthy unit. C/Captain Dickerson: What do you consider to be the unit s greatest accomplishment from the 2016-2017 school year? Lt Col Conte: It s rather difficult since I wasn t here all year to see the progress of the unit. I see improvements in the drill team. It impresses me how they have grown and their excitement and motivation is bringing in more cadets. Our Color Guard has been a strong point with all their events. The community service has some room to improve. The strong participation in Quadcopter is great to see as well. I hope our second attempt for CAP orientation flights will be successful. It gives me and Sergeant happiness seeing cadet leadership increasing/being developed as well.
