The Senior Source May 2014 The Newsletter for Grads and Their Parents (Please note that dates and prices are subject to change. Seniors will be notified of any changes.) Thoughts on Baccalaureate Senior Baccalaureate is scheduled for Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. This event, which has nothing to do with our International Baccalaureate Program, marks the beginning of a special week for the Class of 2014 graduates and their families. The Senior Class traditionally invites three or four clergy from the community to share some words of wisdom and encouragement. Seniors will wear their gowns (no caps) over dressy slacks or dresses. The stage and background in the Performing Arts Center makes an excellent setting for pictures. The atmosphere is unhurried, unlike graduation night, and the evening is an ideal time for families to spend time together. Parents may wish to plan an open house or dinner celebration for friends and relatives who cannot attend the graduation ceremony to follow Baccalaureate. Most seniors view graduation as their night, and the day is gone all too quickly. Seize the opportunity that Baccalaureate offers and start this special week with memories that will linger beyond Graduation Day. Senior Breakfast The Senior Breakfast will be held Friday, June 13, upon the return from Grad Night. Breakfast will be provided by our wonderful PFA and will be served beginning at 6:00 am. Even if you do not attend Grad Night, please join us for good food and a fun last time to visit and laugh with your friends as students at NPHS. Practice, Practice, Practice! Graduation practices will be Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at 8:30 a.m. They are MANDATORY;; seniors must attend in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. If an unexpected emergency prevents your attendance, contact Mrs. Wong ASAP. (Please let your counselor know ASAP if you plan not to walk at graduation.) Students are strongly encouraged to use sunscreen at practice to avoid sunburn. Pay your debts prior to June 10 so we don t have to delay. Yearbooks are not allowed at the practices and will be confiscated if brought. On Tuesday, practice will begin in the following classrooms: A-Ba..B-5 Be-Bro...E-11 Bru-Ch...C-25 Cl-Ded...C-29 Deg-Esc.B-9 Esp-Ge...B-11 Gh-Han... E-1 Har-Hun. Yearbooks are Coming! Yearbooks will be distributed to all students from the Student Store on a date to be announced. You must have your ID card to pick up your yearbook. (Replacement ID cards are $20 in the activities office.) See Mrs. Saremi for additional yearbook info.

Ticket proceeds defray the cost of the graduation ceremony. Tickets are sometimes wanted as souvenirs from graduation. They will be available for anyone who wants one (or a few) after the ceremony. All persons desiring to enter the graduation ceremony MUST be in possession of a ticket when they arrive at the entrance gates. *You may request additional tickets on the form, which will be sold if available. Braveheart wins the Best Picture Oscar. 45 million people worldwide are using the internet. Graduation Seating Arrangement The graduation ceremony will take place on our beautiful George Hurley Field. We will set up a large screen to ensure all parents and guests have a good view of the ceremony and the graduates. We will provide seating for approximately 4,500 spectators in order to accommodate as many people as possible.. The map shown below will give you an idea of the approximate seating arrangement. After the first practice, June 10, your graduate will be able to suggest the best place for you to sit in order to best see him or her. Please plan to enter the stadium on the same side (home or visitor) your grad will be seated. At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will recess to the campus quad, where parents, relatives and friends may meet for pictures. Audience Decorum High School graduation is a oncein-a-lifetime experience. It is a very special occasion for the graduate, family and friends. We request all members of the audience refrain from applauding, hooting and hollering during the reading of the graduates names and speeches so that each graduate s name and speech will be heard. Thank you for making the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2014 a dignified event. Please wait until the ceremony is concluded to present your special graduate with flowers or other gifts. Balloons, air horns, umbrellas, coolers and open beverages are not allowed to be brought into the stadium. Unopened water bottles and small snacks will be permitted. (Please make sure all family members who will be attending are informed of the graduation event protocol.)
