If sent via e-mail, please include all forms as attachments to a single email, with the volunteer name and award name as the subject line. These Awards are intended for Girl Scout of Eastern Pennsylvania Volunteers only. If necessary, GSEP staff may endorse the nominee. Diversity Award Recipient Criteria: The volunteer who is awarded the Diversity Award has demonstrated an outstanding commitment in promoting pluralism and diversity in his/her community, Service Unit or Council. The national outcomes, girls advance diversity in a multicultural world and girls feel connected to their communities locally and globally, are in the forefront of the volunteer s mind. The candidate is a registered Girl Scout. The service goes beyond the expectations of the position. {Pluralism = when social, ethnic and other groups are not only present but fully engaged in the organization.} with Board of Free Spirit Award Recipient Criteria: This award recognizes the college-aged volunteer who has made a special contribution to GSEP by enriching the lives of the girls she works with by introducing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through a variety of outcome based activities using the Discover, Connect, and Take Action keys. The candidate is a registered Girl Scout and serves as an exemplary role model for girls. In a troop or group setting the candidate works with the troop to take the activities in a journey beyond the pages of the book. Directors approval Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania Award Recipient Criteria: The highest Council level award is presented to up to three recipients each year. The nominee has served ten years or more with a commitment and dedication that is remarkable and of extraordinary service to the entire Council community, and is a registered Girl Scout. This award honors three legacy Council leaders: Janet A. Clark (GSFV), Ellen Mary Cassatt (GSSP) and Ronnie Backenstoe (GS-GVC). form plus four

Governance Award Recipient Criteria: Candidate is a registered Girl Scout, and has provided outstanding consistent service to the policy area of the Council. Lights of Loyalty Award Recipient Criteria: This award recognizes a registered Girl Scout volunteer who demonstrates long-term commitment to Girl Scouting for thirty or more years. Service to the organization and the mission are extraordinary. Directors approval Super Service Unit Award Recipient Criteria: This award recognizes the long-time member who has given time, skills, and leadership to her/his Service Unit as a service team member for over five years, by offering programs, events and support services to its members. The service goes beyond the expectations of the position, and the candidate is a registered Girl Scout. Girl Scout Athena Award Recipient Criteria: Named for the Greek goddess of skill and justice, this award will be given to the college or university committed to supporting GSEP by providing meeting space, hosting programs, offering financial support, and internships.

Sophia Award Recipient Criteria: Named for the Greek goddess of wisdom, this award is given to a college group or individual girl who has demonstrated success within the 2010-2011 school year in establishing a campus group, recruited new girls to college hosted events, created a program, or worked with local troops. Pioneer Award Recipient Criteria: Given to a registered Girl Scout ages 24 and up who demonstrates the spirit of a pioneer as she utilizes the framework of the journeys. She has created a program for girls in her area that successfully demonstrate the concepts and philosophy of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Friend of Girl Scouts of Eastern PA Award Recipient Criteria: Given to one or more companies or organizations up to one per county within Council jurisdiction. This company or organization that receives this award supports GSEP by providing meeting space, hosts programs, financial support or other means of visible support to the Council.

Partner in Girl Scouting Award Recipient Criteria: Recognizes financial or in-kind services by corporations or community business partners that benefit the entire Council. APPLICATION APPROVAL PRESENTATION Recognitions Committee with Board of Council Awards Gertrude K. McGonigle Award Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout for a minimum of 10 years, has proven to be a positive role model while working directly with girls and has exemplified the values and traditions of Girl Scouting. Please note: Only one award council-wide will be presented each year. This award is given in honor of Gertrude K. McGonigle by her daughter, in recognition of her mother s long-standing interest and support of Girl Scouting in the Reading/Berks County area. form plus three Council Awards

Appreciation Pin Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout who has provided outstanding service to at least one Service Unit in a way that furthers GSEP s Council goals. The service goes beyond the expectations of the position. For further clarification on the specifics of GSEP s Council goals, please ask your Membership Manager. Honor Pin Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout who has provided outstanding service to at least two Service Units in a way that furthers the Council s goals. The service goes beyond the expectations of the position. For further clarification on the specifics of GSEP s Council goals, please ask your Membership Manager. form plus three Directors approval Thanks Badge Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout who has provided exceptional, outstanding service that benefits the total Council or entire Girl Scout movement. The service is so significantly beyond expectations that no other award is appropriate. form plus four

Thanks Badge II Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout and also a Thanks Badge recipient who has since provided continuing distinguished service benefiting the total Council that significantly surpasses the original achievement. form plus four Directors approval President s Award Recipient Criteria: A Service Unit is recognized for exemplary commitment to Girl Scouting by adherence and support to specific criterion relative to Council goals. GSUSA NATIONAL AWARDS SERVICE UNIT LEVEL [ APPLICATION PROCESS ] Submit complete nomination packets to the Service Unit or appointed Service Team Member. Please do not send applications to the Council. [ APPROVAL ] Service Unit reviews and approves applications. There is no limit to the number of awards per Service Unit. [ DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION ] The service unit establishes the deadline for submission of paperwork, generally six weeks prior to presentation. [ AWARD PRESENTATION ] Approved applications are presented and submitted to the Council Retail Shop by a Service Unit representative to purchase awards or receive certificates. Awards are presented at Service Unit recognitions event.

Outstanding Leader (Retiring as of June 1, 2012) Recipient Criteria: A leader, assistant troop leader, or group coordinator who displays outstanding performance in leadership, communication, and membership skills. form plus two endorsement forms to Service Unit Six weeks prior to Service Unit presentation Service Unit Recognitions Committee (with application, purchase pins at Council Shop) Service Unit Recognitions Event Outstanding Volunteer (Retiring as of June 1, 2012) Recipient Criteria: A registered adult (other than a leader) whose service performed is of benefit to the Service Unit and is beyond expectations for the position. form plus two endorsement forms to Service Unit Six weeks prior to Service Unit presentation Service Unit Recognitions Committee (with application, purchase pins at Council Shop) Service Unit Recognitions Event Volunteer of Excellence Award New for 2011-2012!! Recipient Criteria: The candidate is a registered Girl Scout who has contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience through the use of the national program portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of the Council s mission-delivery goals in one or more of the following functional areas: Membership Development/Community Cultivation, Volunteer Relations and Support, Program, Leadership and Governance, Fund Development, and Council Support Service, to girl and adult members. form plus two endorsement forms to Service Unit Six weeks prior to Service Unit presentation Service Unit Recognitions Committee (with application, purchase pins at Council Shop) Service Unit Recognitions Event Friend of Girl Scouting Service Unit Award Recipient Criteria: The award recognizes groups, community members, or individuals who have supported Girl Scouting in the community by offering meeting space, troop sponsorship, storage facilities, or another token of support. Recipient does not need to be a registered Girl Scout. APPLICATION APPROVAL PRESENTATION form plus one endorsement form to Service Unit Recognitions committee. Service Unit (with application, receive certificate at Retail Shop). Please notify GSEP Volunteer Management Department of award presentation for public relations purposes. Representative of Service Unit presents certificate to the group or individual.

These Awards are intended for Girl Scout of Eastern Pennsylvania Volunteers only. [ APPROVAL ] For necessary awards, GSEP Adult reviews applications and makes recommendations to the GSEP Board of Directors for approval. Years of Service Pin Recipient Criteria: Candidate is a registered Girl Scout recognized for adult years of service. Years of service pins are available in five-year increments. Years do not need to be consecutive. Service Unit Recognitions Chair or individual presents form at the Council Shop for purchase of pins for 5 to 20 years. Service Unit Recognitions Chair submits the application for 25 and above years to the Volunteer Management Department. April 1, 2012 for 25 or more years of service. Recognitions Committee with Board of Directors approval 5 to 20 year pins are received at a Service Unit event. 25 years and up are received at the. Membership Numeral Guard Recipient Criteria: Candidate is a registered Girl Scout recognized for total years of registered membership including years as a girl and as an adult member. Numeral guards are available in five-year increments. Years do not need to be consecutive. APPLICATION DEADLINE PRESENTATION Service Unit Recognitions Chair or individual presents form at the Council Shop for purchase of pins for 5 to 30 years. Service Unit Recognitions Chair submits the application for 35 and above years of service to the Volunteer Management Department. April 1, 2012 for 35 or more years of membership (both girl and adult). 5 to 30 year pins are received at a Service Unit event. 35 years and up are received at the Council Awards.
