JERSEY COLLEGE RECOGNITION OF 5000 TH GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM RULES FOR PARTICIPATION AND AWARDING ENROLLMENT AT JERSEY COLLEGE IS REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS TO BE AWARDED PURSUANT TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS SET FORTH BELOW. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL, AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS APPLY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. 1. Scholarship Awards: Jersey College will be awarding one-time, non-renewable scholarships (the Scholarships ) in celebration of the 5000 th graduate of the college. Each campus of Jersey College will be awarding Scholarships to eligible applicants in the number and amounts as follows: Campus Type Scholarship Amount Teterboro Campus Ewing Campus Fort Lauderdale Campus Largo Campus Jacksonville Campus Tampa Campus The Scholarship awards must be applied to tuition for Jersey College courses that are applicable toward the applicant s degree or certificate program of enrollment. The Scholarship awards do not cover non-tuition charges including, but not limited to; lab fees, late fees, books. 2. Application Dates: The opportunity to apply for the Scholarships starts on March 1, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. and ends on April 15, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. ( Application Period ). All applications must be received on or before the time stated during the Application Period. Jersey College reserves the right to extend or shorten the Application Period at its sole discretion.
3. Benefactor: The Scholarships are being provided by Jersey College, 546 US Highway, Teterboro, NJ 07608. Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the Scholarships should be directed to Jersey College. 4. Scholarship Rules: The Scholarships are governed by these official rules ( Scholarship Rules ). By submitting an application, each applicant agrees to abide by these Scholarship Rules, including all eligibility requirements, and understands that the awarding of the scholarships, as determined by Jersey College and its agents, are final in all respects. Winning a scholarship is contingent upon being complaint with these Scholarship Rules and fulfilling all other requirements set forth herein. The Scholarships are subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations and are void where prohibited by law. 5. Eligibility: To be eligible for the Scholarships, applicants must be: A legal U.S. citizen or resident, residing in a state in which the scholarship is not prohibited by law; Eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time the scholarship is awarded; Enrolled as a student at Jersey College at the time of the applying and at the time the scholarship is awarded; A student at the campus from which the applicant is seeking the scholarship; and In good academic, financial and other standing with Jersey College. Jersey College has the right to verify the eligibility of each applicant. Employees of Jersey College and their immediate families (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or those living in the same household (whether or not related) of Jersey College, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, scholarship suppliers, distributors and advertising and promotion agencies (collectively, Related Parties ) are not eligible to apply or be awarded the Scholarships. In addition, members of the Scholarship Committees (as defined below) and their immediate families (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or those living in the same household (whether or not related) are not eligible to apply or be awarded the Scholarships. Individuals are limited to submitting one (1) application for the Scholarships. 6. How to Apply: Eligible individuals can apply for the Scholarships by submitting an application that includes a cover page and a concise essay (the Essay ). The Essay must be written on the following theme: What does Jersey College mean to you? The Essay should be between 500 and 1,000 words in length. The Essay must be typed and should be formatted with 12pt Times New Roman Font and single spacing. The Essay should be in a Microsoft Word document (or a compatible program) or PDF. The cover page for the application must include: the applicant s name, address, telephone number, and campus (campus that individual is currently enrolled at and the campus that the applicant is applying for the Scholarship). Application submissions must be uploaded via the Scholarship portal located at http://www.jerseycollege.edu/celebration. Applications may be checked by software for plagiarism, and any instances of plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification.
7. Selection: Each campus of Jersey College (Teterboro, Ewing, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Largo and Tampa campus) will form a scholarship committee (individually, the Scholarship Committee, and collectively, the Scholarship Committees ) that will be composed of graduates of Jersey College and will be responsible for reviewing each eligible application and awarding of the Scholarships to eligible applicants for said campus. Scholarship awards will be announced on or about May 12, 2017 on or about 1:00 PM EST. Announcement of Scholarship awards will be sent via email message or phone call to the awarded participants. Formal presentation of Scholarship awards will be occur on or about May 18, 2017. Each applicant is responsible for monitoring his/her email account for Scholarship award notifications and other communications. If a potential Scholarship winner cannot be reached by Jersey College within fifteen (15) days, using the contact information provided at the time of application, that potential Scholarship winner shall forfeit the Scholarship. Upon the request of Jersey College, the potential Scholarship winner may be required to return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Release and Scholarship Acceptance Form and IRS W-9 form. If a potential Scholarship winner fails to comply with these Scholarship Rules, that potential Scholarship winner will be disqualified. In the event that an insufficient number of eligible applications are received (as determined by Jersey College), Scholarships may not be awarded. 8. Terms and Conditions May Apply: Incidental expenses and all other costs and expenses which are not specifically listed as part of the Scholarships in these Scholarship Rules and which may be associated with the award, acceptance, receipt and use of all or any portion of the awarded Scholarships are solely the responsibility of the respective Scholarship winners. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY SCHOLARSHIP IS SOLELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER. 9. General Terms and Conditions: Scholarships awarded are non-transferable. No substitution is permitted. Jersey College and its respective parent, affiliate and subsidiary companies, agents, and representatives are not responsible for any typographical or other errors in the offer or administration of the Scholarships, including, but not limited to, errors in any printing or posting or these Scholarship Rules, the selection and announcement of any Scholarship winner, or the distribution of any Scholarship. Any attempt to damage the operation associated with the Scholarships is unlawful and subject to possible legal action by Jersey College. Jersey College reserves the right to terminate, suspend or amend the Scholarships, without notice, and for any reason, including, without limitation, if Jersey College determines that the Scholarships cannot be conducted as planned or tampering or unauthorized intervention, technical failure or other cause beyond Jersey College s control corrupts the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper play of the Scholarships. In the event any tampering or unauthorized intervention may have occurred, Jersey College reserves the right to void suspect applications at issue. Jersey College and its respective parent, affiliate and subsidiary companies, agents, and representatives, and any telephone network or service providers, are not responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of application information, or for any human error, technical malfunction, lost or delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, line failure or malfunction of any telephone network, computer equipment or software, the inability to access any website or online
service or any other error, human or otherwise. Failure of Jersey College to enforce any provision of these Scholarship Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. 10. INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: BY ENTERING THE SCHOLARSHIPS, EACH APPLICANT AGREES TO INDEMNIFY, RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS JERSEY COLLEGE AND ITS PARENT, AFFILIATES AND SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES, ADVERTISING AND PROMOTIONAL AGENCIES, AND ALL THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES AND AGENTS FROM ANY LIABILITY, DAMAGES, LOSSES OR INJURY RESULTING IN WHOLE OR IN PART, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, FROM THAT APPLICANT S PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOLARSHIPS AND THE ACCEPTANCE, USE OR MISUSE OF ANY SCHOLARSHIP THAT MAY BE AWARDED. JERSEY COLLEGE AND ITS PARENT, AFFILIATES AND SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES DO NOT MAKE ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO THE CONDITION, FITNESS OR MERCHANTABILITY OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS. JERSEY COLLEGE AND ITS PARENTS, SUBSIDIARIES, AFFILIATES, ADVERTISING AND PROMOTIONAL AGENCIES, AND ALL THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES AND AGENTS DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR DAMAGE TO ANY COMPUTER SYSTEM RESULTING FROM ACCESS TO OR THE DOWNLOAD OF INFORMATION OR MATERIALS CONNECTED WITH THE SCHOLARSHIPS. 11. Publicity: By participating, each applicant grants Jersey College permission to use his/her name, likeness or comments for publicity purposes without payment of additional consideration, except where prohibited by law. In addition, by participating, each applicant grants all copyright ownership of the Essay to Jersey College, as well as permission to post the Essay (or excerpts thereof) on Jersey College s website with applicant s name, and permission to post the Essay (or excerpts thereof) on all Jersey College social media platforms and any college marketing materials. 12. Arbitration and Choice of Law: Except where prohibited by law, as a condition of applying for the Scholarships, applicants agree that (1) any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Scholarships, or any Scholarships awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action lawsuit, and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association and such arbitration shall be commenced exclusively in the County of Bergen in the State of New Jersey; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act shall govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction; and (4) to the exclusive jurisdiction of the State of New Jersey even if his/her residence is in another state or country and he/she would not otherwise be subject to such jurisdiction for the adjudication of any dispute hereunder or in connection herewith or with any transaction contemplated hereby or discussed herein. Under no circumstances will applicants be permitted to obtain awards for, and applicants hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys fees, other than contestant s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with applying for the Scholarships), and applicants (or, if an eligible
minor, his/her parent or legal guardian) further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of the Scholarship Rules, or the rights and obligations of applicants and Jersey College in connection with the Scholarships, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the substantive laws of the State of New Jersey, USA without regard to New Jersey choice of law rules.
