What All Opportunities Offer Annual awards to cover the cost of completing a graduate degree. Awards are given for the length of the study program. Continuation of funding in the second year is subject to satisfactory academic performance in the 1 st year. The scholarship provides benefits for the recipient only, covering: Economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program; and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period. Scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip. Tuition and the cost of basic medical and accident insurance usually obtained through the university. A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books varies and is aligned to host country. Multiple and lasting opportunities to tap into global knowledge and resource networks. Access to cutting-edge information through international platforms and networks for knowledge sharing and generation. 6

Are you Eligible? Yes, if you are a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow. Yes, if you are under 40 years of age. Yes, if you hold a bachelor s degree or its equivalent. Yes, if you have a superior record in previous academic work. Yes, if you have at least two years of work experience in your home country or in another developing country. Yes, if you are not a permanent resident or a national of any in industrialized country. Yes, if you are not currently studying, residing or working in an industrialized country. More specific selection criteria are indicated in the sections for each program. 7

The Joint Japan/WB Scholarship Selection Criteria Eligible applications are assessed according to 3 main factors: academic excellence professional experience; and relevance of study program Priority is given to candidates from the public sector with a high potential to impact the development in their own countries after course completion. Priority is given to low-income country applicants. Priority placed on maintaining a reasonably wide geographical distribution of awards. Applications from female candidates are encouraged. Priority is given to candidates with more than four years of relevant, full-time professional experience. Priority is given to those candidates who, other things equal, have limited financial resources. Studies in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are encouraged. Poverty, education, gender equality, maternal health among others. Priority is given to candidates who have previous work experience in public service and strong commitment to public service. Note: All candidates need to commit to return to and work in their home country after completion of their studies and need to acknowledge that they will not be able to work 8 at the World Bank Group or IMF for 3 years after completion of the program.

How to Apply: 3 Easy Steps 1. Select course of study: applicants are encouraged to seek one or several admissions in the 36 universities listed on the JJ/WBGSP Web site 2. Submit scholarship application online through the Joint Japan/ World Bank Graduate Scholarship website at www.worldbank.org/scholarships or print the PDF file and send it to the Scholarship Secretariat. Applications are accepted in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Follow the submission instructions closely, including the list of requested documentation. 11

Submit the following supporting documents: Proof of university admission to a development-related master s degree program in a cooperating university Proof of employment for each of the employment records listed Two professional and two academic recommendation letter Certified copies of all university degrees and corresponding transcripts of grades Proof of nationality and date of birth (e.g. copy of passport or birth certificate) Take Note: Documents must be translated into either English, French, Spanish or Portuguese. 12
