The Prime Minister is talking with the victims [Courtesy for Photograph: The NewAge] The Honourable Minister and the Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief (MoDMR) stayed in the affected areas on 25 th March 2013 and gave necessary instructions to district administration and other concerned authorities to overcome the situation. Immediate Action Taken people are admitted in Brahmanbaria general hospital and other hospitals/clinics. Very seriously injured 15 persons are sent to Comilla Cantonment and some other persons are sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as well. Construction of 10ft high CI sheet partition in district prison. Electricity system is resumed inside district prison by generator. Fire Service, BGB, Police, RHD have managed to restart road communication by removing fallen trees. Page 2 of 6
Rescue operations are carried out with the help of Fire Service, BGB, Police, RHD, PWD and local public representative. Two medical teams from Comilla Cantonment are engaged for rendering medical services. Almost all affected families are getting cook food twice daily from the Government Administration Dry food distribution among affected people is arranged by UP chairman, public representatives and other organizations. Response A. Government of Bangladesh DDM has allocated 200MT of GR Rice to distribute for affected families. Sl No. DDM has allotted Tk.25,60,000.00 (Twenty Five Lac Sixty Thousand) to distribute @ Tk. 20,000.00 for families of each dead people and Tk.5000.00 for each injured people. So far distributed amount is Tk.5,80,000.00 among family of 29 dead people and Tk.19,40,000.00 among 388 injured family. Also, 48.93MT out of 261.58MT allocated GR Rice is distributed among 1631 families @ 30 kg for each family. DDM has deployed two officers along with other three officers (PIO) from adjacent Upazilas to make list of affected people and to help distribute relief materials. Besides, DDM has sent two emergency pick-up vans to DRRO to expedite the response activities. Administration has engaged four Additional Commissioners and two Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO) at Distribution Point to monitor post-disaster relief and rehabilitation activities. Public health Directorate repaired 200 tubewel and installed 20 new tubewel. In addition, response from Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) -Tk. 1,050,000.00 and 700 Bundle CI sheet has been reallocated among affected Upazilas. Response from Trust Bank BDT 500000 and Ashuganj Power Station (APSCL) BDT 500000 has been allocated. * Chamber of Commerce distributed utensils among 300 families. ** Other organizations distributed old cloths among 1000families. Others a) Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) Within hours after the disaster, BDRCS deployed its National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) for assessing the damage on people and their properties. Jointly, BDRCS NHQ and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) from the existing DP Stock dispatched NFI items (1 tarpaulin, 2 water jerry cans and 1 family kit for each family) for 600 families for immediate distribution. On the 23rd of March the medical team became mobile and helped the Tornado affected villages. Each household will be provided with 7.5 kg of fortified biscuits. c) Nova Pharmaceuticals has provided 565 packets medicine to the Civil Surgeon for treatment of injured people. d) Society for Social and technological group distributed a package of 10kg rice, 2ltr soybean oil, 1kg sugar, 1 kg dal, 1 kg flatten rice, 18pcs CI sheet for each among 100 families. e) BRAC distributing a package of 15kg rice, 1ltr soybean oil, 1kg Salt, 1 kg dal, 2 kg potato for each to 1200 families. f) BGFCL distributed BDT 5000 each among 32 HSC Candidate.
