Operation Appreciation Need The Chamber of Commerce identified a concern of not having enough one on one personal touches with it s members. As a growing organization they did not want to lose touch with members who have perhaps not been as active or maybe a business that does not come to networking events. The Chamber looked to their Ambassador committee for some ideas and assistance in this area. Outcome The Ambassador committee members reviewed the concerns of the Chamber and came up with a program called Operation Appreciation. This programs provides the Ambassadors with the opportunity to visit one on one with members to thank them for their support of the Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce as well as pehaps gain a new contact for their personal business. Operation Appreciation takes place every other month on the 3 rd Friday at 9am. How it works Every month an Ambassador volunteers on a rotaing basis to provide the treats (cookies, brownies, pizzas) for 12 businesses. They meet at that Ambassadors place of business. The treat plates have the sponsoring Ambassadors business card or logo to give them the recognition. The treat plates are delivered with a Chamber logo card signed by all the 35 Ambassadors at their monthly meeting saying Thank You for being a member of the Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce. Also at the monthly meeting 4 Ambassadors volunteer to deliver the treats to 3 businesses that Friday. The Ambassadors are given a script to ensure they have a conversation starter. Ambassadors then spend the hour delivering the treats and then report and concerns/updates/questions back to the Director of Membership at the Chamber.

Operation Recruit Need The Chamber of Commerce identified a concern of not being able to get in touch with the correct contact or pehaps the gate keeper of certain businesss. The staff would make the calls and attemt to get the meeting with the owner but sometimes could not get through or a call back. The Chamber looked to their Ambassador committee for some ideas and assistance in this area. Outcome The Ambassador committee members reviewed the concerns of the Chamber and came up with a program called Operation Recrut. This programs provides the Ambassadors with the opportunity to visit one on one with new or exsisting businesses they could possibly obtain a business conection with for their business as well as promote the Chamber of Commerce. Ambassadors work as the eyes and ears for the Chamber out in the field as well as rectut new members so this was a natural fit for the group. Operation Recuit takes place every other month on the 3 rd Friday at 9am. How it works Every month an Ambassador volunteers on a rotaing basis to provide the treats (cookies, brownies, pizzas) for 12 businesses. They meet at that Ambassadors place of business. The treat plates have the sponsoring Ambassadors business card or logo to give them the recognition. The treat plates are delivered with a Chamber logo card signed by all the 35 Ambassadors at their monthly meeting saying Thank You for investing in Lake Havasu City. Also at the monthly meeting 4 Ambassadors volunteer to deliver the treats to 3 businesses that Friday. The Ambassadors are given a script to ensure they have a conversation starter and as much information about the business as possible including if they were a past member and why they may have not renewed. Ambassadors then spend the hour delivering the treats and then report and concerns/updates/questions back to the Director of Membership at the Chamber.

Tim Miller, who chairs the Marketing Committee, said, The end result is that we deliver a final product in the form of what we offer to our members, who are, in essence, our customer, and showing them the value and benefits of being a Chamber member. That, Tim says, is a condensed version of what the 10-member committee does. There s an awful lot to it it s everything from website development to the advertising that we do, whether that be in print form, verbal communication, clips on the website, direct mail, radio the programs and benefits that we re constantly trying to develop to enhance membership for current members, and attract membership. For example, a little more than a year ago, the committee Tim Miller developed a monthly Business Solutions luncheon, offering businesses the opportunity to discuss the challenges and problems that all business owners face, he said. It s an open forum where everyone may participate. They share ways that they ve handled similar problems or offer ideas on how to go forward, he says. Discussions range from how to make modifications to employee handbooks to insurance issues, health care issues, hiring issues the wide spectrum of all the things a business owner deals with on a day-to-day basis. The group has grown since its inception, he said. Everyone leaves there with something because it s really a good brainstorming session. Business Solutions usually meets on the third Tuesday of the month for 90 minutes, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at a restaurant that is a Chamber member. Participants pay for their own meals, and more information is available from Tim or Kathy Tippett, Director of Administration and Technology at the Chamber office. Tim said that one of the biggest accomplishments in recent years has been bringing the membership process into the digital age, by providing Jeni Coke with the electronics she needs. Jeni is the Chamber s Membership Concierge and Events Coordinator. She has in her hand the electronics that she needs when she goes and talks with a prospective member, to show them the website, to show them the benefits of Cont. on Page 19

Forefront Cont. becoming a member, and to be able to complete the entire process down to payment by a credit card, if that s how what they want to do it. So it s no longer wait for a check that comes in the mail. Jeni will also leave a membership flash drive that explains the topics she discussed with the new member, as a quick reference. It s simple for a Chamber member to join the committee We re only a phone call away. Let me know that you re interested in participating and we d be happy to have your input and ideas. We re always looking for a fresh face and a fresh mind to help contribute to our efforts, he says. The committee meets on the last Monday of each month at the Chamber office at 1:30 p.m. (See contact information at end of this article.) Chamber membership over the past seven years has contributed to the success of Tim s business, Tire and Auto Center, through referrals and networking. Chamber members refer Chamber members, Tim says, and he puts the number of customers that walked through his door thanks to referrals and membership in the hundreds. Chamber membership gives you lots of opportunities you wouldn t get if you weren t a Chamber member And one more reason to join? You have a good time doing it. Tim Miller may be contacted at tire1@citlink.net or phone 855.8473 and Kathy Tippett may be contacted at kathyt@havasuchamber.com or 855.4115. Business Milestones Cont. Chamber Ambassadors must be members of the Chamber of Commerce, and there s a fee to join the committee. Interested persons may contact Jeni Coke, Membership Concierge and Events Coordinator, at the Chamber office, 314 London Bridge Road, e-mail jenic@havasuchamber.com or phone 855.4115. Been One Cont. Our team name is The Cure CHASErs, and we commit to walking for 12 straight hours the night of the event, in honor of those we have lost to cancer, those who have survived, and the caregivers as well. Amy has been Committee Chair (Hospitality) for the 2011 National Association of Chamber Ambassadors conference in Lake Havasu City; a graduate of Havasu Leadership Development 2006/2007; and a graduate of Advanced Havasu Leadership Development 2012/2013. She is presently the Chair of the Ambassadors Community Outreach. She is a member of the London Bridge Republican Women s Club and the Lake Havasu Republican Women s Club, and a member of the Judicial Merit Commission since 2006, where she is presently Vice Chair for 2013/2014.
