From the Desk of Fr. Jim A question has come up recently asking what the purpose of the Maintenance Fund collection is. It is as the title says for the maintenance of the Parish: things like salt for the winter, to pay the plumber, to repair the organ, to paint what needs painting, cement work, cleaning supplies, whatever needs done to maintain the good operating condition of the physical structures and keep the place safe for the people of the parish. The fund helps with these. It doesn t cover all the costs. In fact most of these costs come out of the ordinary income of the parish, but it helps support the payment of these costs. This past weekend Bishop Zubik awarded Amy Dering and Becky Hurst the Manifesting the Kingdom Award along with over 200 awardees from all over the Diocese at St. Paul Cathedral. It was a beautiful event. The music for the Mass was heavenly. There were quite a number of Priests concelebrating. But what made it most beautiful was the Awardees faith expressed in their devotion to Christ in their work in and through the Church. They are living examples of what the Bishop means when he speaks of the Church Alive. Congratulations Amy and Becky! Christ hold you close to His Sacred Heart. Pax, Fr. Jim Visiting Priests Fr. Jim Orr will be on vacation this week and we have the following Priests scheduled for Masses: Sat. Oct. 7 @ 4:00 pm: Fr. James Garvey Sat. Oct. 7 @ 6:00 pm: Fr. Leonard Cornelius Sun. Oct. 8 @ 7:30 am: Fr. Brian Noel Sun. Oct. 8 @ 9:00 am: Fr. Brian Noel Sun. Oct. 8 @ 11:00 am: Fr. James Garvey Hurricane Irma RELIEF COLLECTION September 30 & October 1 Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration of the Relic of St. Therese of Lisieux at St. Anthony's Chapel On Sunday, October 1st at 3:00 pm, we will begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance at the beginning of evening prayer and the service will conclude with Benediction, Christ imparting His blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Following the service, the faithful who wish to do so will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one of the saints. For October, it will be the relic of St. Therese of Lisieux, whose feast day is on October 1st. Also, The Revilak family from Slovenia will sing in their native Slovenia language, while the faithful venerate the relic of St. Theresa of Lisieux. Special St. Anthony s Chapel Rosary A special Rosary created for St. Anthony s Chapel will be available for purchase after the 3:00 pm evening prayer service on Sunday, October 1st. There are four different types of beads: Pink Pearl, Crystal, Tiger Eye and Hematite. In Honor of Our Lady of Fatima On Friday, October 13th at 5:30 p.m. in St. Anthony s Chapel, Deacon Greg Jelinek will lead us in a Scriptural Rosary. There will be a homily regarding the final apparition of Fatima, that occurred on October 13, 1917 (exactly 100 years ago). Benediction will follow. All are welcome to participate in commemorating the message of Our Lady of Fatima. Blessing of the Animals Sunday, October 1st 1:00 pm @ Most Holy Name Parish Park Please bring your Pets for a Blessing by Deacon Greg Jelinek in honor of St. Francis of Assisi

The 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am to noon at Most Holy Name Church Hall is the designated day for distributions. Tuesday, October 17 is the next distribution date. Complete Joy As we read in his letter to the Philippians today, Saint Paul shares that his joy is complete when they are united in heart. It is a discouragement against envy and competition and an encouragement for humility and service. To be united in heart and one as the Body of Christ is always our mission as the Church. This task becomes even more essential as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! There is no doubt the Church will be made stronger as we unite our human, pastoral, spiritual and financial resources and form vibrant parishes throughout the diocese. The challenge is to place our focus not on ourselves, but on our neighbors and our new communities that they may be alive in faith and in the love of God. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. Need Prayers? The Most Holy Name & St. Aloysius Parish Prayer Chain is a group that prays for a person or persons that is in need of God s graces. If you would like to have a prayer said for a special intention, please contact Margaret Leo at 412-576-4944. Pope Francis Monthly Prayer Intention for October Workers and the Unemployed That all workers may receive respect and protection of their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the opportunity to contribute to the common good.

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul Seeking new volunteers Serving our neighbors within the St. Aloysius and Most Holy Name of Jesus Parishes Who we are: A worldwide Christian community, founded in Paris in 1833, serving those in need regardless of creed, ethnic or social background, health, gender, or political opinions. (Rule of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, Oct. 2003) Vincentians have a vocation to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassion and liberating love. This lay ministry spiritually enriches the servant while we provide the needs of those we serve. Are you being called to be the hands and eyes of Jesus Christ to your neighbor? What we do: Any form of personal help that alleviates suffering or deprivation and promotes human dignity and personal integrity. (Rule of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Oct. 2003) Receiving requests through the parish rectory, our two-person team meets with the person/s in their home (or a mutually agreed site) to discuss how we can help. The services are at no cost to our area s most needy residents often involving utility shut-offs, pending evictions, or immediate basic need such as food, clothing, etc. For more information: Answer your questions or how you can join, call Ted Hunkele at (412) 931-1223 or leave an inquiry on our rectory help line: (412) 231-2994, ext. 8.
