For his efforts, Buxton earned the conference s Coach of the Year award. He is also Grove City s head women s tennis coach. In 2012, Caroline McGuire earned the conference s Player of the Year award. Buxton joined the College s athletic department in July 2012 as head tennis coach and as an assistant professor of physical education and exercise science. MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 The Grove City College men's tennis team will likely feature a number of new faces in the starting lineup during the 2013-14 season. But that does not mean that the Wolverines' mission has changed. Grove City will look to defend its Presidents' Athletic Conference title and make a fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. While graduation claimed a portion of the Wolverines' starting lineup, Grove City does return three starters and a fourth competitor who saw extensive action last year. Second-year head coach Jeff Buxton will look to combine that veteran core with several newcomers this season. Junior Peter Riley returns at the top of the Grove City lineup after playing first singles in each of his first two seasons. He earned the conference's Player of the Year award as a freshman and shared the team lead with 11 singles wins last year. Junior Colby Beighey, another two-year letterwinner, returns after helping anchor the middle of the Grove City lineup last season. He won the conference title at second doubles and earned league runner-up at No. 4 singles. Beighey will look to move up in the lineup this season. Junior Chris Collins saw action as a part-time starter in 2012-13 and compiled a 10-1 overall record in singles and doubles action. He will look to nail down a full-time spot in the lineup this season. Sophomore Jonathan Graber emerged as a rookie, capturing conference titles at both sixth singles and third doubles. Like Beighey, Graber will look to move up in the Wolverine lineup this season. SEASON PREVIEW Sophomore Jonathan Graber is a returning starter and conference champion for Grove City. Junior Josh Sauer has played as a reserve in each of his first two seasons and will contend for a starting spot. Sophomore Thane Feldeisen saw action as a reserve during the 2012-13 campaign and will also look to break into the lineup. Several newcomers are also in the mix to fill vacancies this season. Grove City will open the fall portion of the 2013-14 season September 7 by competing in a tournament at Allegheny College. The spring schedule begins March 19 with a home match against Division II foe Mercyhurst. Conference play begins three days later at Thomas More. MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 2012-13 IN REVIEW Prior to the 2012-13 season, the Grove City College men's tennis team featured plenty of depth and experience, two valuable assets for a program looking to defend the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship. Throughout the season, each of those assets would be severely tested as injuries forced first-year head coach Jeff Buxton to continuously shuffle the lineup. Marked improvement by several other conference programs only added to the difficulty of Grove City's journey. Despite all of those obstacles, the Wolverines continued to persevere. That persistence paid handsome dividends April 19-20 as Grove City rallied to capture its 23rd consecutive league title and another trip to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Grove City finished the two-day championships at the Pennbriar Club in Erie, Pa., with 46 team points, edging favored Saint Vincent by two points. Each of the nine flights featured a Grove City-Saint Vincent matchup in the championship final and the Wolverines won five crowns. Senior Blake Brogan pulled out a three-set victory over top-seeded Chris Andrejcik at fifth singles to clinch the conference championship. Senior Anthony Rosselli closed his conference career by prevailing at third singles and freshman Jonathan Graber highlighted his rookie season by upending top-seeded Sean Malone in the finals at sixth singles. The Wolverines held a pivotal 2-1 edge in doubles play at the conference finals. Rosselli and Colby Beighey earned an 8-6 win at second doubles while Brogan and Graber pulled out a 9-7 decision at third doubles. The conference championship gave Grove City its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. In the opening round at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, May 10, the Wolverines met in-state foe Wilkes. Rosselli and senior Caleb Fuller combined for a 9-8 victory at second doubles while senior Andrew Deckert returned to the lineup and teamed with sophomore Peter Riley for an 8-4 triumph at No. 1 doubles. However, the Wolverines' bid to advance in the tournament came to an end as Wilkes rallied for four singles wins and claimed a 5-2 victory. The Grove City program earned a cavalcade of postseason honors following the season. 2012-13 IN REVIEW The Grove City College men s tennis team captured the 2013 Presidents Athletic Conference championship and earned the program s third straight invitation to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. 5

GROVE CITY COLLEGE 2012-13 IN REVIEW 2012-13 IN REVIEW Grove City fell to 1-1 in the spring with a hardfought 6-3 setback at regional power Oberlin March 9. Riley won at first singles and Collins captured a win at No. 6 singles for the Wolverines. Conference play opened March 13 with a 5-4 setback at Saint Vincent. Beighey, Brogan and Rosselli all won singles matches but that could not offset Saint Vincent's 2-1 edge in doubles play. The Wolverines quickly recovered from that rare league setback by churning out three straight shutout victories in a three-day span April 4-6. Grove City rolled to a 9-0 win at Westminster April 4 as five of the six singles wins came in straight sets. The next day, Grove City blanked visiting Thiel. Rosselli won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles and also recorded an 8-0 win with Beighey at second doubles. Grove City raised its conference record to 3-1 April 6 with a 9-0 win over visiting Thomas More as the Wolverines yielded just three total games in the match. Grove City closed its conference schedule with three more wins April 12-15. Sophomore Colby Beighey tied for the team lead with 11 singles wins in 2012-13. He also posted an 11-2 mark in doubles play. Buxton earned the league's Coach of the Year award while Fuller earned Academic All-America honors from Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Fuller, Riley and senior Dan McLaughlin all earned placement on the conference's Academic Honor Roll. Grove City opened the 2012-13 season by splitting a pair of fall matches. After an 8-1 setback against Division II West Liberty September 6, Grove City bounced back for a 7-2 win over local rival Westminster September 24. Beighey and Chris Collins teamed for a win at third doubles and Collins also prevailed in the No. 5 singles slot. The spring season commenced February 15 with an 8-1 indoor victory at Penn State Behrend. The Wolverines swept the three doubles matches and then took each of the first five singles bouts, including four in straight sets. Caleb Fuller concluded his career by earning Academic All-America honors from Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). 6

MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 2012-13 IN REVIEW The Wolverines blanked host Bethany April 12, 9-0, before taking an 8-1 win at Washington & Jefferson the next afternoon. The Wolverines concluded conference play with a 6-1 record after a 9-0 triumph over Waynesburg April 15. Graber secured a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles while Brogan and Deckert picked up an 8-0 decision at third doubles. A pillar of the Grove City lineup since his freshman season, Anthony Rosselli closed his career by winning conference titles at both third singles and second doubles in 2013. 2012-13 IN REVIEW 2012-13 RESULTS Date Opponent Result Score Record Sept. 6 at West Liberty L 8-1 0-1 Sept. 24 WESTMINSTER W 7-2 1-1 SPRING SEASON Feb. 15 at PSU Behrend W 8-1 2-1 March 9 at Oberlin L 6-3 2-2 March 13 at Saint Vincent* L 5-4 2-3 April 4 at Westminster* W 9-0 3-3 April 5 THIEL* W 9-0 4-3 April 6 THOMAS MORE* W 9-0 5-3 April 9 at Carnegie Mellon L 9-0 5-4 April 12 at Bethany* W 9-0 6-4 April 13 at Wash. & Jeff.* W 8-1 7-4 April 15 WAYNESBURG* W 9-0 8-4 April 16 ALLEGHENY L 9-0 8-5 April 19-20 PAC Championships 1st/8 May 10 Wilkes% L 5-2 8-6 *-Presidents Athletic Conference Match %-NCAA Tournament at Gambier, Ohio Home Matches In ALL CAPS Senior Andrew Deckert earned his third letter at Grove City during the 2012-13 season. MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 Founded in 1955, the Presidents Athletic Conference continues its mission of promoting intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence. Comprised of 10 select private colleges and universities - Bethany College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Thomas More College, Washington & Jefferson College, Waynesburg University and Westminster College - the PAC remains a unique organization in this day of high-pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics at the center of each member s philosophy, the PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is a part of college life, but not an entity in itself. During the 2005-06 academic year, Chatham, Geneva and Saint Vincent all joined the PAC. Chatham competed for PAC championships for the first time during the 2007-08 academic year. Saint Vincent first competed for conference titles in 2010-11. 2013 Standings Overall Conference W L W L Saint Vincent 10 3 7 0 Grove City* 8 6 6 1 Thiel 14 5 5 2 Waynesburg 7 7 3 4 Westminster 3 14 3 4 Wash. & Jeff. 3 8 2 5 Bethany 5 10 1 6 Thomas More 1 9 1 6 *-Presidents Athletic Conference Champion 2013 PAC Players of the Week March 4 Richard Parks, Thiel March 11 PETER RILEY, GROVE CITY March 18 Dave Cenkner, Saint Vincent March 25 Anthony Nemanic, Saint Vincent April 1 Dustin Maiolo, Bethany April 8 ANTHONY ROSSELLI, GROVE CITY April 15 Dave Cenkner, Saint Vincent 2013 PAC CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS FIRST SINGLES Championship No. 1 Dave Cenkner (SVC) def. The PAC annually crowns champions in 19 sports. All-Conference status is awarded in all 19 sports. Head coaches select all-league squads for all team sports, while in individual sports such as cross country and tennis, all-pac accolades are based upon performances at the conference championships. MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME Four men associated with Grove City tennis have been inducted into the College s Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Don McMillan 32 Born in nearby Evans City, Doc entered Grove City College with notable basketball and baseball credentials. But tennis was his game in the 1930s, as he lost only two matches in his junior and senior years. In 1931, he won the Butler County tennis championship. He was a scholarship recipient and graduated with honors from University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1936. McMillan served in the Army Medical Corps as a surgeon during World War II. He rose to the rank of full colonel later in his career. Beginning in the mid-1950s, Doc brought countless high school athletes from southwestern Pennsylvania to campus. The athletic annals include a host of outstanding athletes that enrolled because of Doc. He was a tireless recruiter and ambassador for the College. On Sept. 9, 2000, the College named its newly-constructed press box at Thorn Field in his honor. INDUCTED 2007 Robert E. Thorn 16 After an outstanding athletic career in the local area both in high school and as a four-sport letterman at Grove City College, Robert E. Bob Thorn returned to campus in 1920. During his distinguished career, he coached the basketball team, founded the soccer program and reinstated the men s tennis team. Thorn led the men s tennis team to 16 winning seasons, including an 8-0 record in 1933. As basketball coach, Thorn guided Grove City to 21 straight victories between 1921 and 1922. In 1922, Grove City qualified for the National Invitation Tournament, with a 16-4 mark. On the soccer field, the fiery sideline mentor directed three undefeated teams over his final nine years. He also spearheaded Grove City s efforts to enter into full NCAA membership in the 1950s. At Homecoming in 1975, the College renamed its football and track facility in Thorn s honor. Grove City rededicated Thorn Field Sept. 9, 2006. INDUCTED 2007 Frank Sbrocco 57 Meadville, Pa., s Frank Sbrocco played tennis, basketball and soccer at Grove City from 1953-57, earning 10 letters. Described by head coach Bob Thorn as one of his finest athletes, Sbrocco s work ethic and desire enabled him to be one of the College s all-time great multi-sport athletes. Despite never playing tennis before arriving at Grove City, Sbrocco played first singles and doubles in his final two years and captained the 1957 team. He is the first Grove City College varsity player to earn All-American when the National Soccer Coaches Association selected Sbrocco as an Honorable Mention All-American in 1956. He was a charter member of the College s Men s Soccer Hall of Fame in 2001. Sbrocco also excelled on the basketball court as a standout guard, earning three letters. INDUCTED 2007 Cliff Wettig A coach for all seasons, Wettig headed the men s soccer, basketball and tennis teams at Grove City from 1962-1971. All three programs produced their winningest seasons to that point under his direction. He accumulated a combined coaching record of 251-123-4 in 27 total seasons at Grove City. In his nine years as tennis coach, Wettig guided Grove City to a 74-17 win-loss mark, including undefeated campaigns in 1964 and 1965. Wettig coached the men s soccer team to a 65-20-4 overall mark, including undefeated seasons in 1964 and 1965. In 1962, Grove City advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournament. Wettig s teams also excelled on the hardwood as the basketball program posted a 57-32 mark over his final four seasons. Overall, he compiled a 112-86 record as basketball coach at Grove City. He continued his coaching career at Slippery Rock State, Tennessee and Samford. Wettig passed away May 26, 1981 in Birmingham, Ala., at age 53. INDUCTED 2008 ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME 15

GROVE CITY COLLEGE ABOUT GROVE CITY COLLEGE The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and includes 28 neo- Gothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the highest quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly independent and to retain its distinctive qualities as a private school governed by private citizens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the College believes that to be well-educated a student should be exposed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City s programs in electrical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The big business school curriculum prepares students for today s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship opportunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. This is part of the Information Technology Initiative, a total program integrating technology across the curriculum. ABOUT THE COLLEGE Grove City College s Breen Student Union The College believes that its student body has a unique mix of talents and abilities. Its Career Services program helps students identify those key assets during the first year and then builds a four-year strategy to help them pursue a satisfying career. Personal counseling, professional speakers, databases, alumni contacts, summer internships, corporate visits, employer presentations and more are incorporated into the career preparation experience. Grove City follows the semester calendar plan, in addition to offering two-week sessions in January and May. Most of the 2,500 students live in separate men s and women s dormitories. The rest are local commuters or married students. A full program of cultural, professional, athletic and social activities is offered, including 19 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. Grove City, a town of 8,100 people, is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is located near Interstates 79 and 80 and has a municipal airport. MEN S TENNIS 2013-2014 ATHLETIC FACILITIES All 19 of Grove City College s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams utilize the College s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City s athletic facilities have undergone numerous renovations and improvements in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College s football and track and field teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber infill system. The College also installed lights and resurfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new state-ofthe-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefit the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College s club sports teams and its intramural program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The complex also features 10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium. Phillips Field House, located at the north end of the complex, features several locker rooms, an athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches offices. It is used by the football, track and tennis programs throughout the academic year. The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the Grove City College Arena, home to the College s basketball and volleyball programs. In summer 2012, the College renovated the Arena by installing new lighting and a new playing floor. In recent years, the Arena has also received new scoreboards and scorers tables. The James E. Longnecker Pool is one of the nation s premier small-college venues for both swimming and diving and water polo. The home of Grove City s football and track and field teams, Robert E. Thorn Field has received numerous renovations in recent years. In addition, the PLC features the James E. Longnecker Pool, one of the premier aquatic facilities in the region. Each year, Grove City hosts the Presidents Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the state-of-the-art facility. In 2012, the College also hosted the Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Championships at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The PLC also features a second pool, the Recreational Pool, which is used by members of the College community year-round. A fitness room featuring aerobic and Cybex equipment and a separate weight room with free and mechanized weights are also keystone areas of the facility. The PLC also features six racquetball/handball courts as well as two adjacent intramural rooms. The intramural rooms feature four basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, four volleyball courts, an indoor track and two indoor jumping pits. The College installed new synthetic flooring and several new electronic scoreboards throughout the intramural rooms. The Physical Learning Center houses the athletic training room, locker rooms and offices for coaches and physical education faculty. The College recently constructed a new office suite for coaches and athletic administration, while also incorporating its Athletic Hall of Fame area. Grove City s outdoor athletic facilities have also received numerous upgrades in recent years. The varsity soccer field, College Field, was expanded and re-sodded during the summer of 2005. College Field also received a new press box during the summer of 2007. Meanwhile, Grove City s baseball and softball facilities recently received major facelifts as new dugouts, new fencing and electronic scoreboards were installed on both fields.
