TUESDAY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT April 19, 8 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Acoustics Is a Pain Point for Architects, Contractors and Building Owners The purpose of this session is to explore the four acoustical concepts that affect contractors most: STC the concept of sound loss through a wall or floor/ceiling assembly. IIC The Impact Insulation Class is a method of rating the impact sound transmission performance of floor/ceiling structures. Warren Barber NRC Noise reduction coefficient which manages sound and sound absorption within the room. CAC Ceiling Attenuation Class measures sound isolation for ceiling tiles through ceiling plenum. The session will be led by a panel of experts moderated by Warren Barber of National Gypsum. TUESDAY OPTIONAL EDUCATION April 19, 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Capitalize on your education! AWCI is offering attendees an opportunity to increase their knowledge by attending a Doing It Right seminar on April 19. These seminars (BIM, ceilings, exterior envelope, gypsum and stucco) were developed for owners and upper and middle management project managers, foremen and estimators. Each seminar provides seven hours of education and will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19. There will be a break from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. so participants can walk the trade show floor and have lunch. Your registration for a Doing It Right seminar includes a complimentary trade show pass to Intex Expo on April 18 and 19, 2016. Register by March 15, 2016, to receive the early bird discount of $265 for AWCI members and $325 for non-members. Registration fees after March 15 are $300 for AWCI members and $360 for non-members. BIM Doing It Right This course examines the current state in the construction industry as it relates to the usage of building information modeling. It is a must-attend seminar for the construction professional considering using BIM. The seminar will provide answers to questions such as, How much is this going to cost me, and who should be the person who manages the BIM process? What are the day-to-day activities of a project manager having to go through the BIM process? What are the real-world applications for BIM? What are the expectations of manufacturers? What do you do with BIM data? BIM provides assistance through every phase of the project including after the project is complete. A panel of industry experts will provide answers to your questions while covering 10 topics during the seminar. Attendees will gain information on how to adopt BIM into their company using both hardware and software tools, see the advantages from internal controls, using it as a marketing tool, and the risk and liability issues that exist when working in a BIM environment. Ceilings Doing It Right This seminar covers the proper installation of acoustical ceilings and is based on the seismic provisions of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Some topics covered in the ceiling course are types of surfaces, moldings and accessories, engineering and design considerations, material handling, safety, and estimating and project management. This course will be presented by a subject matter expert who will discuss design considerations, ceiling codes and standards, pre-bid 10 AWCI s Convention & Intex Expo

TUESDAY OPTIONAL EDUCATION April 19, 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. and mobilization, types of suspended ceiling systems, specialty tools, estimating considerations and concerns as well as project management and quality control. Exterior Envelope Doing It Right Even though energy codes have been in place for several years now, they continue to be a source of confusion to architects and contractors as they design, bid and install exterior walls. The International Energy Conservation Code has made these exterior wall systems more complex to design and construct. The new code s continuous insulation requirement combined with ever-changing ASTM and ASHRAE construction standards are presenting major design and construct challenges. This program will clarify the subtle but significant differences between the IECC and ASHRAE 90.1 and how that relates to LEED initiatives. Moisture migration and heat transfer are the fundamental elements that drive the codes and standards, and they, too, can be confusing. This course starts with codes and standards, discusses the underlying building sciences, and ends with information for the job site with a goal to make a project successful. Robert Grupe is the interim director of technical services for AWCI. He spent more than 38 years with United States Gypsum Company where he held various technical and management positions. Activities included product and system design and technical consultation to the AEC community. He currently is a consultant to the construction community where he has worked on several large scale international construction projects. He has authored numerous articles and given presentations on fire, sound and environmental issues as they relate to wall and ceiling assemblies. Gypsum Doing It Right This seminar is based on industry standards and best practices for the installation of gypsum board systems. Developed under the guidance of an expert oversight group made up of contractors and manufacturers, a few of the topics covered include codes and standards, design issues, types of gypsum systems, red flags and solutions, finish systems and project management/quality control. continued on next page April 15-19, 2016 New Orleans, Louisiana 11

TUESDAY OPTIONAL EDUCATION April 19, 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Michael Logue worked for 13 years as director of technical services for the Western Wall and Ceiling Contractors Association before applying his full efforts to growing his consulting firm, Michael M. Logue and Associates. MMLA is a wall and ceilings consulting firm that serves architects, contractors, builders, homeowner and developers. Structa Wire Corp. in Vancouver, B.C., utilizes Logue s expertise as a commercial construction technical consultant where he provides technical and field assistance to contractors and architects. Stucco Doing It Right This seminar is based on ASTM C926 and C1063 and covers the application of portland cement-based plaster applied to metal and solid bases. Developed under the guidance of an expert oversight group made up of contractors and manufacturers, some of the topics covered include codes and standards, substrates, design considerations, materials, weather concerns and limitations of material/stress control/cracking. In 2002, after 40 years successful experience as a plaster and drywall subcontractor, Mike Boyd formed Boyd Consulting Group. His company serves architects, building owners, developers, property managers, general contractors, exterior wall subcontractors, attorneys, insurance companies, real estate agents and homeowners. He is a Certified EIFS Inspector as certified by AWCI, the Exterior Design Institute and the Moisture Warranty Corporation. Tuesday, April 19 7:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Course break from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch and walking trade show floor. HOSPITALITY ACTIVITY French Quarter Food Tour and Scavenger Hunt Sunday, April 17 11 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Cost: $99 person 30 person minimum 60 person maximum The iconic French Quarter is New Orleans most historic and culturally rich neighborhood, having been the home at one point for the French, Spanish, Italian and Caribbean. Each culture left an indelible mark on the area and helped develop intricacies of Creole cuisine. In recent decades, Cajun restaurants began to highlight Louisiana s country cuisine as well. A new generation of creative chefs opened up shop, paying homage to both great cuisines while putting a new spin on the classics. On the walk to the restaurants from the hotel, you will participate in a Scavenger Hunt. The tour guide will provide a historic, cultural and architectural tour of the area as well as about the restaurants and dishes. On the way to the restaurants, you will participate in a series of trivia, getting-toknow-you games, puzzles and matching games to spur some competition and conversation.
