Dear Parishioners, On Monday, March 19, we will be celebrating the feast of Saint Joseph. St. Joseph is that just and holy man who became the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. He was compassionate and caring. When he learned that Mary was pregnant, not knowing that she was carrying the Son of God, he decided to divorce her quietly to not expose her to shame or cruelty. Joseph was a man of faith, obedient to whatever God asked of him so under God s inspiration he took Mary as his wife. Joseph was a carpenter who taught Jesus the skills of his trade. Joseph is the patron saint of the dying because many believe he died in the arms of Jesus and Mary before Jesus began his public ministry. He is also the patron of the Universal Church, fathers, carpenters, travelers, house sellers and buyers (planting a statue is superstition not a devotion). Most especially, St. Joseph is the patron saint of our parish community. We offer devotional material at the statue of St. Joseph in our parish. There are novena prayers, a petition booklet and St. Joseph s oil to anoint oneself when praying for healing. We will celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph after the 9 a.m. Mass on Monday, March 19, in the parish hall with traditional Zepole pastries. As mentioned last week, we are in the process of the Catholic Appeal. If you have not yet made a pledge you may do so online or by completing an in-pew pledge form available at the back of the church. For your information, we were having some leaking issues in the bathrooms in the parish hall and replaced the toilets. The cost of replacing all of the toilets was $6,570. I will be available for confession this week on Wednesday, March 21, from 2:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs. God love you, 2
Reflection of the Week No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another. HOLY HOUR A time of quiet music & reflection Sunday 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. PRAYER GROUP Hour of praise and charismatic prayer Monday 7:30-8:30 p.m. BIBLE STUDY DVD series, The Footprints of God Tuesday 7:00 p.m. HEALING SOAKING PRAYER Come meet us to pray for healing Wednesday 6:30 p.m. Thursday 2:00 p.m. Spiritual Teaching You may wonder, How can I incorporate genuine meditation into my Christian life? I believe that there are several basics of meditating that will reap tremendous benefits in your walk of faith. 1. Season of time. Do you hurry through your prayer time so that you can get to other things? Think about the model Jesus gave us. Did He ever rush through His prayer time? No, He made communing with the Father His priority, and everything else fell into place around that. 2. Stillness. We read the call to stillness in Psalm 46:11 (NIV), yet we may wonder, W hat does it mean to be still? Simply put, it means that we stop everything else. This can be difficult for us in this fast-paced, multi-tasking world. We ve gotten used to doing a dozen things at once! However, true meditation requires that we focus our minds on only one thing: Almighty God. 3. Seclusion. This is something that the Lord really had to fight for in His ministry, as He was constantly surrounded by people. While attending to their needs, He also guarded His need for seclusion. Often in the gospels, we see Jesus retreating for some private, intimate time with the Father. No matter what else was going on, Jesus always made a point to safeguard chunks of time here and there to rest in the Spirit, focus on His relationship with the Father, and build up His strength. Is your prayer life characterized by time set apart and safeguarded so you can be alone with God and still? Commit today to build these essentials into your day. ~Intouch.org 3
