1 of 4 Purpose To provide procedures and guidelines for wearing, acquiring, and the replacement of County issued uniforms and equipment to active members of Volunteer Fire and/or EMS Companies in Prince George County. Policy It is the policy of Prince George Fire and EMS to provide appropriate apparel and safety equipment for all active members engaged in operations. Upon officially becoming a member of a Volunteer Fire and/or EMS Company in Prince George County, individuals will be issued the following uniform/safety items: Golf Shirt (1) Tee Shirt Short Sleeve (1) Leather Gloves (1 Pair) Safety Glasses (1 Pair) Safety Shoes (1 Pair) Uniform Work Pants, Long (1) Uniform Belt and Buckle (1) Protective Coat (1) (EMS Only) Firefighting Protective Gear (Fire Suppreson Personnel Only) Coat Pants Boots Helmet Gloves Hood
2 of 4 Procedure After successful completion of the Bac Fire Academy or the Bac EMS Academy, members are eligible to participate in the uniform replacement program. Pre-certified Members are eligible once they have satisfied all probationary requirements set forth by the Volunteer Fire and/or EMS Company they are asgned. On an annual bas, the Company Chiefs/Shift Leaders shall inventory all uniform items issued to each active member of their respective company or of their shift. Items shall be checked for quantity, serviceability, cleanliness, and proper zing. A uniform inventory form shall be completed and gned by the Company Chief/Shift Leader. The uniform inventory form shall be kept in the members personnel file and a copy forwarded to Fire and EMS Administration that will be placed in their permanent file. Members are only eligible to order from an approved list of items as listed on the uniform request form and can order as they deem necessary to maintain an adequate inventory. Replacement On an annual bas, the Department of Fire and EMS will hold a uniform ordering time period for one month. Active members will be able to order from an approved list of items. However, the items below are required to be replaced and maintained first: Station Uniform Golf Shirts (2) Tee Shirts (2) Job Shirt (1)
3 of 4 Protective Coat (1) Safety Shoes (1 Pair) Uniform Work Pants, Long (2) Uniform Belt and Buckle (1) Dress Uniform Dress Shirt Short Sleeve (1) Dress Shirt Long Sleeve (1) Dress Coat (Blouse) Dress Pants (1) Badge (2) Name Plate (1) Dark Navy Tie Collar Ingnia All officers are required to keep one light blue and one white, short sleeve dress shirt as well as one light blue and one white, long sleeve dress shirt on hand. Uniforms that are damaged or grossly contaminated while on duty will be repaired/replaced at the Department s expensed with the approval of the Company Chief along with the Director or degnee. All active volunteer members will be provided an annual monetary allotment agreed upon by the Chiefs Management Committee ($250.00) to be utilized to replace needed uniforms. Members are responble for managing the allotment and requests that exceed the amount or obtained prior to approval, will be the responbility of the member. A uniform requition form shall be completed and gned by the Company/Shift Leader. The completed uniform requition from shall be forwarded to the Fire and EMS Administration for procesng.
4 of 4 Wearing of Uniforms Normal work uniform shall const of Department issued pants, belt with buckle, golf shirt/tee shirt, and approved safety shoes. The dress uniform shirt should be worn during special and public presentations. Variations of the uniform standard may be approved by the Company Chief/Shift Leader, Director or degnee. Safety Apparel A reflective safety vest shall be provided for each riding potion of all Fire and EMS apparatus. A reflective safety vest shall be worn when increased vibility is necessary at the scene (vehicle accidents, night incidents, etc.) in accordance with state law. Tear restant coats shall be worn during vehicle extrication and other incidents where the potential for skin injury is higher than normal. Approved safety shoes shall be worn while on duty. If individuals elect to wear issued shorts, appropriate protective clothing (i.e. turnout gear) must be worn at EMS scenes, scenes requiring extrication, wooded areas and others that have the potential for injuries of exposed skin. At no time shall personnel enter an IDLH atmosphere or other dangerous environment without wearing the proper Personal Protective Equipment to include Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. The Incident Commander shall establish the appropriate levels of PPE utilized on incidents based on current standards. Under extreme circumstances (i.e., severe ambient temperatures, etc.) the Incident Commander may alter the levels of PPE utilized when life safety may be jeopardized, only if further harm to the fire and ems personnel is not probable.
5 of 4 Helmets, gloves, and eye protection shall be worn as needed to provide the highest level of protection to our members.
