VOODOO NEWS American Legion Post 4 News Winter 2018 Published Quarterly Issue # 32 From Your Commander Tim Shosey Happy New Year to all Post 4 Members and their families, from your Executive Board, the Sons of the American Legion, and the Legion Riders. I would like to give a big thank you to Sharon for volunteering over the Holiday season for the five adopt a families, many hours went into picking up food, shopping, packing and getting ready for pickup. Great job! I would also like to thank all the other volunteers, men and women who help throughout the year to make our events successful and to keep our post operational, my sincere thanks to one and all. The Early Bird Dinner was well attended. My thanks go out to Sharon Kassin and her volunteers who prepared the dinner and to August Miele Post 4 Adjutant and his volunteers for organizing the event. The Children s Christmas Party was a lot of fun. Tootsie the Clown made different balloon arrangements for the kids and keep them entertained during the lunch and while they waited for Santa. There was also face painting and different crafts that the kids had the opportunity to enjoy. A BIG thank you to Ann Robertson for chairing the event and for all her hard work. Also, a big thank you to all her helpers, the Sons of the American Legion for providing the lunch, and the 40/8 crew for bringing Santa and taking the kids on a train ride. Start thinking about 2018 and how you can volunteer to make your Post better and to make the Post events successful. There are many events coming up in the next few months, check the calendars in this news letter and come visit your post. Looking forward to seeing each and every one of you at the Post in 2018! News from the Post Adjutant/ Membership Chairperson 2018 means a new year, new beginnings, and new members. Our future relies on increased membership. Be a recruiter and sign up a new member. Wear a cap that identifies you as a Legionnaire and someone may approach you. Always have your 2018 membership card and a membership application in your wallet or purse. As of January 1 st, staff will be carding everyone in the lounge as you will be required to have your 2018 membership card in order to be served. If you have not renewed, do it today. Department will be sending out renewal notices in January. If you get one, but, already have your 2018 membership card, please ignore the notice. If in doubt, check your records, or just simply call me. These steps will keep you from paying twice and save you and me some aggravation. At the Early Bird dinner, Commander Shosey was privileged to Initiate 5 members. If you are a member and have never taken the Membership Oath, we would like to make you official. Come to a General Membership Meeting (the fourth Monday) and tell us you would like to do that. We will initiate you then and there. Coming soon, your chance to make a difference at the Post. Nominations for Post 4 Officers for the year 2018-2019 begin at the General Membership meeting February 26. Nominations and acceptance will be March 26. Elections will be April 23 rd from noon until 7:00 P.M. We want a full ballet with some choices. A member in good standing and willing to give their best effort is eligible to run for office. Also a member in good standing is eligible to nominate and vote. So come and be a part of it. We have 1011, paid members; we are at 81.53% renewal. I have been working on getting the membership list current. I have sent letters and made phone calls to anyone that has not paid dues in the past two years. The results so far: 22 are deceased, 49 dropped for various reasons, and 56 have not yet responded. No response, costs the Post money, if you know of a member who has passed away or moved or transferred, please tell me. Semper Fi, Adjutant Augie Miele From the Web Coordinator: Please keep sending your e-mail addresses. This has helped cut the cost of our snail mailing of the Voodoo News.
