Advancing orthopedics for generations to come. 2015

Advancing orthopedics for generations to come. Serving as President & CEO for OrthoWorx has been an honor for me. As a Warsaw native, I take great pride in the people and companies that call this area home. I appreciate the opportunity to make The Orthopedic Capital of the World even better. Throughout my career in the industry, I have seen how innovation can change the world of orthopedics it s the very catalyst that drives success. I have also seen how important the Warsaw region is to orthopedics and, in turn, how important orthopedics is to Warsaw. By constantly working toward advancing the industry, we can ensure we are moving ever forward, making orthopedics even better for our children and future generations. Education, employment, innovation and community enhancement it all adds up to a region that is full of opportunity. I believe wholeheartedly in the OrthoWorx mission and am dedicated to making it a reality. Our accomplishments, combined with our strategic plans, provide the platform for advancing our key initiatives and making a lasting impact on our industry and community. In the spirit of innovation and community, Sheryl Conley President & Chief Executive Officer OrthoWorx As OrthoWorx President & CEO, Sheryl Conley brings unique experience and dedication to the team. Born and raised in Warsaw, Indiana, Sheryl has a great knowledge of the surrounding area and the world of orthopedics. She s a graduate of Ball State University, with a bachelor s degree in chemistry and biology and an MBA. She has dedicated her entire career to the healthcare field, including 25 years at Zimmer, now Zimmer Biomet, in operational, R&D, marketing and executive leadership roles. In September 2012, she joined the OrthoWorx team to guide the group s efforts and build on its successes.

On the leading edge of education & talent OrthoWorx Center of Excellence at Grace College (More information on next page) Photo courtesy of Grace College & Seminary development. To strengthen the orthopedic cluster, we have created a formidable team of academia, experts, and industry and community leaders to drive future growth and ensure a well-educated and trained workforce. University Industry Advisory Board By forming the University Industry Advisory Board, OrthoWorx is working to create stronger, mutually beneficial connections between Indiana s academic assets and the globally significant orthopedic medical device industry cluster in northern Indiana. This collaboration could lead to generating experiential learning opportunities for students, jobs for graduates, research opportunities for faculty members and the possibility of developing and commercializing intellectual property for state universities while complementing the research, development and design, manufacturing and recruiting efforts of the local orthopedic companies. Please visit our website for a full listing of our university members. Additional Initiatives Ivy Tech Orthopedic and Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (OAMTC)- A visible accomplishment of their work is the Orthopedic Quality Standards and Technical Skills Certification. The program focuses on meeting the professional and technical needs of the orthopedic workforce and has already resulted in many graduates securing positions at local companies. A mixture of traditional classroom and realworld orthopedic experiences, this opportunity for students means a better-prepared workforce. The OrthoWorx Center of Excellence at Grace College - Offers two Photo courtesy of Warsaw Community Schools programs designed specifically for the medical device industry: the Orthopedic Regulatory and Clinical Affairs (ORCA) Program and the Medical Device Quality Management (MDQM) Program. The ORCA Program is the nation s only graduate program designed for and by orthopedic regulatory and clinical affairs professionals. Three cohorts of ORCA students have graduated from the program. The MDQM Program launched January 2014 and was designed to train and develop individuals currently employed in or seeking entry into the medical device industry or related industries. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Driven by findings of OrthoWorx Cambridge Study, we are dedicated to helping to move STEM forward in Kosciusko County and in our region. We were instrumental in working with Warsaw Community Schools to establish Washington Elementary STEM Academy, increase its ISTEP scores and support its operations. The curriculum includes an orthopedic focus. We are also expanding STEM Education in the region through our support of a STEM mobile learning center, which was implemented in the fall of 2014. Most recently, we joined with the Kosciusko County Community Foundation to make Project Lead The Way s STEM education curriculum available in K - 12 throughout Kosciusko County. We have completed a number of initiatives that contribute to our community being a great place to live, work and play. MyWarsaw.Net Big things are happening on the web for OrthoWorx. Based upon a study we commissioned by Ball Sate Building Better Communities, we successfully launched MyWarsaw.Net, a community web portal. It is a comprehensive resource for information about the Warsaw area and what our region offers. This website gives people a view into what life in Warsaw is really like a place full of opportunity. From details about area schools to a comparative cost of living tool and community events, the website has everything a potential visitor or resident would need to know about our region. Krebs Trailhead Park We have made huge strides in providing recreational areas for pedestrians and bicyclists in Kosciusko County. OrthoWorx proudly supported the Krebs Trailhead Park, a key element in connecting and expanding Kosciusko County s recreational assets. The trailhead, which includes new paths, restrooms, trail information and picnic tables, serves as the pefect entrance point to the newly-renovated Market Street pedestrian and bicycle paths. Additional Initiatives We also collaborated with these other programs and initiatives to build upon our social and cultural offerings and to promote diversity and inclusion. Wagon Wheel Theatre We Inspire Support Empower (WISE), Inc. OrthoWorx Diversity Committee Enhancing the future of orthopedics through innovation. Building on our successes, we continue to strive toward a dynamic future for our region and the orthopedic industry. With a collaboration of universities, researchers, clinicians and inventors, the innovation pipeline can create new advancements to drive the expansion of the orthopedic cluster. University Industry Engagement OrthoWorx has engaged our state s higher education entities to partner on a variety of projects aimed at providing advancement for the orthopedic industry while providing learning opportunities for students and faculty. Advancing Orthopedics for Generations to Come. The Value Chain Mapping Project is an example of this collaboration. Students from member academic institutions produced a detailed value chain process map for a generic orthopedic company. This model can be used as a learning tool for those new to the orthopedic industry. It also identifies current and future issues facing the industry, which provides opportunities for partnership with academia to reach solutions. In the years ahead, we know that OrthoWorx will continue to expand horizons that grow the Warsaw area. We are proud to be a part of such a dynamic industry and are working to drive future achievements that build on our community s strengths. OrthoWorx is also working with the Advanced Manufacturing and R&D Councils to conduct technology roadmapping workshops that will drive future projects that promote partnership between industry and academic partners. At OrthoWorx, we are proud of where we have been and where we are going - toward many more years of successful orthopedic advancement. Accelerator Concept We are investigating opportunities to leverage our history of innovation and unparalleled human capital with the development and funding of a possible local innovation accelerator. These innovative programs can continue to encourage and create new opportunities to expand the orthopedic ecosystem and its assets. This includes initiatives like our new University Industry Advisory Board. This group is composed of senior level industry members and innovators from the Indiana colleges and universities that have joined OrthoWorx as members.
