Purpose and Objectives Purpose: The conference is designed to update health care professionals on cutting-edge advances in orthopedics through the dissemination of best practices, emerging innovation and quality improvement in care delivery. Information presented is intended to enhance clinical competency in the office management and differential diagnosis of the total joint replacement (TJR) candidate, and how to best medically optimize them for total joint replacement surgery. Objectives: At the end of this program, the participant should be able to: Explain how bundle payment programs work and how this kind of payment model applies in orthopedics Determine where, how and when physical therapy protocols are best delivered to optimize functional outcomes in the pre- and post-operative management of the total joint replacement patient Describe the critical preoperative optimization steps to develop a plan to ensure risk stratification, standardized preoperative process, and communication of findings to reduce postoperative medical complications Discuss the indications and contraindications for total ankle replacement in patients with advanced painful arthropathy of three main etiologies: primary, post-traumatic and secondary Describe the emerging field of robot-assisted orthopedic surgery and the potential for improvements in surgical planning, accuracy of component implantation and patient safety Review criteria used by physicians to determine TJR risk assessment of patients with moderate to severe chronic hip or knee pain Discuss indications for total shoulder replacement and evaluate the difference in clinical outcome between total shoulder arthroplasty and reverse shoulder arthroplasty Disclosure Policy: It is the policy of Creighton University Health Sciences Continuing Education, to ensure balance, independence, objectivity and scientific rigor in all its educational activities.
