Clinical Documentation Improvement Boot Camp (Live or Online) Master CDI skills for program and professional excellence The Clinical Documentation Improvement Boot Camp helps new CDI specialists as well as experienced CDI specialists in need of formalized training. An expert instructor will cover topics such as medical record review and physician queries; MS-DRGs and reimbursement under the IPPS by body system with an emphasis on identifying opportunities to improve the accuracy of ICD-9-CM code assignment; ICD-9-CM coding rules and regulations; and CDI program benchmarking and compliance initiatives. Additionally, participants will gain an understanding of the relationship between principal diagnosis selection and medical necessity (e.g., inpatient versus observation status). The CDI Boot Camp will help you: Implement a step-by-step process for thorough medical record review, including assessing incomplete, vague, and missing diagnoses based on clinical indicators Understand the relationship between ICD-9-CM diagnosis and procedure coding, MS-DRG assignment, and the documentation improvement process Build ICD-9-CM coding and DRG assignment knowledge Recognize clinical indicators for problematic diagnoses such as congestive heart failure, sepsis, renal failure, and encephalopathy Demonstrate when to query providers based on the presence of clinical indicators Teach physicians the value of improved documentation on hospital reimbursement and publicly reported data and overcome barriers to provider cooperation Understand the impact of compliance initiatives, including RACs, on CDI departments Identify the key metrics for determining the progress of CDI departments, specialists, and participating physicians Need to Train a Group? Bring the HCPro Boot Camp to your organization and save time and money. Eliminate travel costs and enjoy a group discount while ensuring your staff is up to date on the latest regulations and guidelines. Course content and length can be customized to meet your needs. 2

ICD-10 for CDI Boot Camp TM (Live or Online) Learn ICD-10 from the clinical documentation specialist s point of view The ICD-10 for CDI Boot Camp is designed for the experienced CDI specialist who needs to gain understanding of diagnoses that may require additional documentation under ICD-10. This two-day course places an emphasis on ICD-10-CM with an overview of ICD-10-PCS (procedure coding). Participants will be exposed to differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM coding conventions while reviewing key coding concepts such as combination codes. The course begins with an overview of general coding guideline changes, including an overview of procedure coding/ ICD-10-PCS, and moves quickly into new or changing documentation requirements by body systems, highlighting when these changes impact DRG assignment. Participants will also learn strategies regarding the incorporation of documentation requirements into existing forms and/or templates to minimize potential queries for additional documentation during the transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS. At the end of this program, participants will be able to: Apply general ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding conventions Identify additional documentation required for accurate ICD-10-CM diagnosis code assignment Identify coding guidelines unique to ICD-10-CM and PCS Identify common situations that will require physician queries in ICD-10-CM Define how combination codes affect CC/MCC status and DRG assignment Identify ways to incorporate ICD-10-CM documentation requirements and queries into current practice Develop physician education strategies for the most problematic diagnoses in ICD-10 Need to Train a Group? Bring the HCPro Boot Camp to your organization and save time and money.
