General Information This is a standardized two-day course that provides an exposure to basic principles of critical care. Its primary goal is to enhance the ability of primary care practitioners to perform the initial assessment, management, and stabilization of critically ill patients. Specific topics include: airway management, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, basic hemodynamic monitoring, and shock. In addition, management of specific disease states in the realm of neurologic emergencies, burn, trauma, myocardial ischemia, life-threatening infection, and life threatening metabolic disturbances are reviewed. This course is limited to 24 attendees. Please register early to secure your participation. Payment must be received at the time of enrollment. Intended Audience Primary care physicians, ARNPs, PAs, general surgeons, registered nurses, and critical care trainees. Educational Objectives Upon completion of this conference, the participant should be able to: Identify appropriate diagnostic tests for specific patient populations Prioritize clinical critical care management issues Assess the critically ill patient in an organized fashion Attendance at this course does not indicate nor guarantee competency or proficiency in the performance of any procedures that may be discussed or taught in this course. Credit The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine designates this educational live activity for a maximum of 16.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Nursing will grant 1.77 CEUs (IBN Approved Provider #34). Participants must attend the entire program to receive full credit. Other health care professionals will be provided a certificate of attendance for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other professional associations.

Date and Location The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course will be held May 15-16, 2018 in the EMSLRC 6 th Floor General Hospital, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa [elevator C to 6 th Floor, RIGHT off elevator, take first hallway on RIGHT]. Registration See the registration form for two ways to register: mail (with check only) and online at https://uiowa.cloud-cme.com/aph.aspx. The $270 registration fee includes tuition, course materials, continental breakfasts, break refreshments, and lunches. Registration is on a firstcome first-serve basis. An email confirmation will be sent upon receipt of payment and completed registration form pending available seats in the course. Upon receipt of payment, course materials will be sent to your mailing address. It is recommended that you review these materials as you will be completing a pre-test prior to the start of the course on May 17, 2018. Cancellation Policy Your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when written notification is received by the Continuing Medical Education Division, 100 CMAB, Carver College of Medicine, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa 52242.
