PLATFORM UPDATES December 15, 2014 We ve made some exciting enhancements to Lippincott DocuCare for the Spring 2015 semester! These updates will be available when you access your DocuCare account beginning the week of December 15 th, 2014. You ll find more extensive Pediatrics content, a new HEENT Assessment tab, barcode scanning, and a few other important changes. More Fields for Pediatric Patients We understand that children are unique and shouldn't be treated as small adults. Lippincott DocuCare has made extensive additions to allow students to document and practice critical thinking skills for their young patients. Pediatric-specific content appears when Treat as Pediatric Patient is selected when setting up a new case in your Case Library, or when a new clinical patient is added with an age range under 20 years of age. Item Patient Info > Demographics tab Description of Update Age for pediatric patients can now be documented in years, months, or weeks Ability to document corrected age for preterm babies Ages for the youngest patients can now be documented in weeks (recommended for patients under 3 months) or months (recommended for patients under 2 years of age.) If a patient s age is 2 years or under, options for Term and Preterm appear. If Preterm Is selected, users can enter the corrected gestational age, which will then appear in the patient information at the top of the page. Ability to document height and weight in either metric or English/imperial Fields for both cm and in (for height) and kg and lb (for weight) automatically appear for pediatric patients. If one value is entered, the other is automatically calculated. Security Number Band The security band number can be documented as part of patient info and will appear in the header at the top of the page. Family Members/Guardians present Family members and/or guardians who are present with the child can now be documented. List multiple family members/gaurdians with the Add button.

Patient Info > Admission Assessment > Social History tab Targeted information on Home Situation, Education, and Environmental Home Assessment for pediatric patients

Questions related to Nicotine, Alcohol, Drug Use, and Sexual Activity dynamically change based on the patient s age For patients under the age of 9, questions focus on use in the home (see below); no questions on sexual activity are visible. Chart for patients age 9 and over shows same questions as adult patients. Small modifications to Nutritional Screening and Other Safety Measures Assessment tabs Fields for fontanels in the new HEENT tab For children under the age of 3, a section to document an assessment of the fontanels appears within the Head section.

Addition of a Growth & Development assessment tab Addition of fields appropriate to pediatric patients in Neuro tab

General Changes Several changes have been made throughout Lippincott DocuCare in response to feedback from our customers to further enhance the product. General Changes New HEENT Assessment tab To provide students with a realistic charting experience, Lippincott DocuCare has incorporated a new HEENT screen in the Assessment section of the patient chart. Modifications to Assessment > GI tab Small changes have been made to the GI tab to streamline the content and make it more true to practice. 1. The Emesis tab previously housed at the bottom of the screen has now been integrated under the Vomiting option in GI Symptoms. 2. The Tubes tab has been extensively revamped to include greater detail. Assessment > Pain Scale Immunizations A field has been added to the Pain Scale assessment that allows users to indicate which scale was used to complete the assessment Immunizations have been moved from within the Diagnostics tab to its own tab to the right of Diagnostics. New Notes section for Lab Results Students can now document the impact of documented lab values in the new Notes section added to the Labs tab under Diagnostics.

Barcode Scanning Facilitate your students' transition to practice and improve patient safety by allowing students to practice real world barcode scanning. Lippincott DocuCare's barcode scanning functionality allows the student to verify the right patient and medication during medication administration. Instructors can easily generate and print barcodes from Lippincott DocuCare, or upload the barcodes from the medications already in use in the lab. Barcode scanning works with a variety of barcode scanners (to be provided by the school/institution). To learn more about this exciting new feature, refer to the Lippincott DocuCare Instructor User s Guide for step-by-step instructions, and be sure to view the DocuCare Barcoding Overview video at: http://download.lww.com/wolterskluwer_vitalstream_com/vidanimpreview/videos/docucare_barcode_overview.html My Case Library Updates Functionality Changes Case Ownership functionality added You can now select which of your co-instructors/co-faculty have editing rights to your cases and which have read-only rights, which can prevent cases/patient records from inadvertently being changed or deleted. To modify who has rights to your cases, open any case from your Case Library and update the list of users under Modify Who Has Editing Rights for this Case in the Edit Case Info screen. TIPS: Co-Instructors that have editing rights will be able to edit, delete, and add content to your cases. Any changes you or your co-instructor(s) make to your cases will affect ALL instructors and students using those cases. You may only change editing rights for those cases for which you are the Case Owner. To modify a case to which you have copy/read-only rights, make a copy of the case in the Edit Case Info screen. Please review the section Establishing Case Editing Rights in the Instructor User s Guide to learn more. New Cases/Patient Records Coming January 2015! New Patient Scenarios to match vsim for Nursing Additional maternity and pediatric patient records will be added to the case library to correspond with vsim for Nursing Maternity, vsim for Nursing Pediatric, and vsim for Nursing Maternity and Pediatric. vsim for Nursing is co-developed with Laerdal Medical and provides access to virtual patient scenarios and curriculum for added patient-centered learning. Learn more at: thepoint.lww.com/vsim Coming soon: Patient records for vsim for Nursing Gerontology!
