Mitchell Dear NBPA Members and Honored Guests: We would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to you to join us for the National Black Prosecutors Association s (NBPA) 28th Annual Conference in the beautiful Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. This is the first time the Twin Cities has hosted the National Conference, and our committee intends to show conference attendees a wonderful time. The theme of this year s conference is Accountability to Public Service, Commitment to Justice, and Empowering the Community. This year s theme reflects a renewed commitment to the ideals of public prosecutors. We intend to address the practical, transformational, and aspirational aspects of our collective practices. We have developed workshops for attorneys of various levels of experience that cover topics in both state and federal practice. The workshops include new topics such as: Prosecutor s Discovery Obligations, Prosecution of Violent Crimes in Refugee Communities, and Prosecuting Terrorism Cases. There will also be conference seminars focusing on the trial skills that prosecutors use every day. The Conference will be held at the Minneapolis, Marriott City Center in downtown Minneapolis. The Marriott is within walking distance to some of the finest restaurants, farmers markets, and retail shops. You can take a walking tour of Target Field, Walker Art Center and Sculpture Garden, the Gutherie, and the Stone Arch Bridge, which overlooks the historical Mississippi River. Take a bus to Uptown, where you can enjoy rooftop eating and some of the best people watching in the area. The Mall of America is a short bus or train ride away. Rent a bike, rollerblades, or a canoe and enjoy Lake of the Isles, Cedar Lake, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, or the Greenway. St. Paul is the twin city to Minneapolis. St. Paul bo asts some of the most beautiful and historic architecture, which include the State Capital, the Cathedral, and Summit Avenue. Locally owned boutiques and eateries line Grand Avenue. Registration materials are enclosed with this letter. If you have questions, please contact one of the Conference chairpersons. We look forward to seeing you in the beautiful Twin Cities this summer. Sincerely, Michael A. Dees 2011 NBPA Conference Co-Chairperson Gloria Stamps-Smith 2011 NBPA Conference Co-Chairperson Dana L. Mitchell 2011 NBPA Conference Co-Chairperson
