The Lovelace family created this scholarship in to recognize students in mathematics and physics. Awards alternate between mathematics and physics. Wyman L. Williams Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate mathematics major at the University of South Carolina. Can be renewed for not more than 3 additional years of undergraduate study. Wyman L. Williams came to the University in 1919 as a freshman, joined the Mathematics Department faculty in 1924, and retired in 1970 as Distinguished Professor Emeritus. The Wyman L. Williams Mathematics Scholarship Fund was established in 1970. Victor W. Laurie Undergraduate Research Scholarship in Mathematics awarded annually to an undergraduate who shows high academic achievement and promise in the area of mathematics. The Undergraduate Advisory Council selects the recipient through a competitive application process. The Chair chooses an appropriate faculty member to assist the student in developing a summer research project. The award was established in 2005 by Victor W. Laurie, an Alumnus of the University of South Carolina and Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Princeton University.
