WELCOME TO THE 1 ST NATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE The University of Belize, the National Institute of Culture and History, Galen University, and the University of the West Indies officially announce the hosting of the 1 st National Research Conference to be held on March 21 and 22, 2018 at the University of Belize, Belmopan Central Campus, Jaguar Auditorium. BACKGROUND The University of Belize, the National Institute of Culture and History, Galen University and The University of the West Indies, Open Campus, Belize are four of the primary institutions within Belize with the legal mandate to support and conduct research in Belize. These institutions recognize the importance of research and its linkages to Belize s development. For this reason, these institutions have agreed to collaborate for the promotion of research in Belize which may be applied to Belize s economic, scientific, social and technological development. The goals of the 1 st National Research Conference are: to assess the nature of research currently being conducted in Belize, and to explore the establishment of the National Research Council of Belize. RESEARCH AREAS The Conference theme is: Research and Development in Belize. Belizean and International researchers, professors and graduate students are invited to submit abstracts of scholarly papers related to the theme. Undergraduate students are also invited to submit proposals for posters related to the theme. All proposals should be based on any of the following subject areas: 1. Social Sciences: history, sociology, anthropology, applied economics, geography, technologies, and tourism, etc. 2. Education: pedagogy, methodology, languages, applied linguistics, online education, technologies, adult & continuing education, technical education, multicultural education, etc. 3. Physical and Natural Sciences: environmental studies, climate change, math, biology, physics, chemistry, agriculture, technologies, computer science, health, conventional medicine, traditional and alternative medicine, etc. 4. Arts and Humanities: culture, literature, performing arts, fine arts, expressive arts, philosophy, ethics, technologies, etc.

Attendees will register at the conference on March 21 and 22, 2018.
